Aftermarket Alarm

this is for a friend's 99 Mazda Millenia

he has the stock keyless entry/alarm, but he lost the key fob for it and mazda wants some ridiculous price for a new one. he can get a cheap aftermarket one and replace the stock one.

anyways, what he's wondering... can the stock module be removed and replaced with the aftermarket without any issues. all he wants is to be able to lock and unlock the doors and maybe the trunk feature.

Get a new key fob via eBay or the like. It should look IDENTICAL to the one he had. Probably about $35 or so.

The programming is a little tricky but can be done by yourself. The sequence is as follows- FOLLOW CLOSELY.

Unlock the car, close all the doors.

Open drivers door

Turn ignition to RUN (DO NOT start the car) then to OFF and

REMOVE the key. Insert key, turn ignition to ON then LOCK and remove key for a second time. Insert key, turn ignition to ON then LOCK and remove key for the third time.

Get out of the car, close the drivers door, then open it. Close it again, Then open it. Close it a third time then open it.

The key dinger/buzzer should go off once (DING)

Press any button on the new remote TWICE. (i.e., LOCK LOCK)

Key dinger/buzzer should go off once (DING)

IF you have a SECOND remote, press any button TWICE (i.e. LOCK LOCK) WITHIN 10 SECONDS of the first remote! Then wait 10 seconds for FOUR key dings (DING DING DING DING) If NO second remote, then....

WAIT 10 seconds- Key dinger will go off FOUR times (DING DING DING DING)

New remote(s) programmed. If it doesnt work, try it from the top again. If you do not get any key dings, make sure the door opening turns on the dome light, this could be a problem if the door switch is old (My 626 door switch gets hung up in the rubber protective boot all the time on the rear doors, so it doesnt turn on the dome light, and the car doesnt know the door is open)

Enjoy! Make sure you have good batteries in the new remote before you start!

he actually had found an aftermarket car alarm for $20, and he's just keeping to car until the end of school and then getting a new one. so only for a couple months. someone actually broke into his car and broke both locks, and he wants to put the least amount of money as possible into the car.
