aftermarket A/C ?!?

as everyone in the Montreal area lately i've been driving, and sometimes in traffic, in over 30deg. temp. (more if you count the humidity)

and it's a pain!

so my question is (as stupid as it may be), is it possible to install an AC even if my car didnt have it as a option

i really like my P5, on almost every level, but every summer it's the same story...and it's not getting colder

of course the dealer wants to **** me for 3000$+ (canadian) for it...or i can always sell it and get a Mazda3 (but i personnaly thing the P5 is nicer looking then both the sedan and sport) or other car with AC, but my initial plan was to keep my car for a long time (8-10 yrs)...i got it in may of 02 and i dont have 45k on it, its still new

30 degrees....and you need a/c???? silly canadians...

lol, 30* C dude. That like 85-90 F. Still pretty cool IMO.

You want a miserable summer, try coming down to Alabama one August. 98* and 130% humidity = (rant)

If the wiring for the A/C is there I'll sell you my compressor and anything else related to the A/C that I can dig out of my garage. You'll probably need to get a hose or two and the controls depending on your setup.

Holy s*** man the option was only 1000 and they are asking how much. I have the AC but didn't get the sunroof regret it now.

My sister wants AC in her 93 civic so I have to go look around at junkyards to see if I can get the one they had for that car back then.

forgot to mentioned it's in *C for us northern folks

i know it's hotter and heavier in other places (damn anarchistchiken, 98* with 130% hum. in Al. that must be crushing in heavy traffic under the sun!)

don't get me wrong, i really apreciate my car with the sunroof, cause it's pretty cool, but my comfort zone during those hot&humid days in traffic is getting pretty thin and i am planning some road trips down south during summer times and keeping my car for a while...so might as well spoil myself and be comfortable (i know i should've got it when i bought the car new...wont happen again)...some get 3000$ sound systems, chromed 18", wicked paint jobs, turbo's, ect, i want to be "cool" (literrally)

xelderx, i'll talk to a mecanic here and keep you posted...but it might be cheaper to find the parts this side of the border with shipping, customs and the CAN/US $ rate (i'm assuming your in the US)

but all this does'nt answer my question; did anyone did this "mod" on their Pro5? ;)

did you have any problems with your defroster/climate control with the removal of the A/C. I'd like to remove mine but love how well the windsheild is dehumidified with the current setup. also, is it a b**** to remove the a/c in general?

shrug i live in FLA and my ac is fine.... i just let the car run for 2 mins with the ac on and the windows down - have the dial set on 4 and recirculation and its all good! Right now its 88 degrees! and 70% humidity It feels like 100 degrees!

I haven't had any problems with the defroster and remaining heater controls. The car isn't driven very much right now, though. The A/C is actually pretty easy to remove. You'll need those special disconnect tools for the lines where they snap together going into the firewall. Everything else just unbolts and you replace the drive belt with a 41 inch belt to keep the power steering.

Instead of A/C...get the WOMP supercharger kit. You can't have A/C if you want to use it, so you're already half way there! And if you roll the windows down and drive super fast, you won't even need the A/C. The sound of the supercharger alone will make you forget how hot it is.

I was going to suggest that but figured it didn't answer the question of the a/c :)

How's about a turbonator rigged for interior air blowage?

That's a stupid idea...EVERYONE knows that you need TWO turbonators to drop the cabin air temperature, and that both turbonators need to be reversed and put in series...geez

i dont use the a/c except when it automatically turns on with the windshield defroster. i hate using the a/c
