After driving for a couple of weeks with HKS BPV

Hello,

I have had the HKS SSQV in recirc for almost 3 weeks and I have noticed a HUGE drop in MPG. My onboard dash meter said I was getting about 24-25 mpg avg. But I reset it when I installed the HKS and I DID install it recirc mode. and I have lost what seems to be 5 mpg.

When I fill up the tank to full and the needle goes down one quarter my trip says I have only traveled 60 miles. Why would my gas mileage go down just because of a BPV. I only have MS CAI and the HKS. Does anyone have a solution?

Having a heavy foot would be my only idea. Due to you kept it in recirc which is exactly what it was before you replaced the bov.

How many miles on your MS3? There could be other reason and BPV may just be coincidence. Before doing a lot of changes or making assumptions, think simple things: check air filter and spark plugs, etc.

Also, gas mileage can be very variable if you are just looking at the gas gauge. You need to use several full tanks. Take total mileage and total fuel used over say three fill ups and average them. This is a small tank, and being off by even one gallon in your estimates of fuel usage if you are trying to figure mileage on a partial tank can get you way off in your calculations.

its winter, your using winter gas,
its just normal since your on the winter brew now which has additives to stop freezing

if thats not it then idk, its def not the BPV

thanks for all the replys, i did read how it is cause i live in maryland where it is really cold out now, and i only noticed this after i replaced the bpv.

I have 41,000 miles on the car and I have not done a spark plug change.

also a question while i was driving home from the gym i played no music so I heard all the noise form my bpv. when I press the gas moderately I hear 3 distinct sounds when shifting gears. the sound is "flut, flut, toooooof" (i feel ridiculous making the noise and trying to type a sound) and the flut, flut is really fast after another and the tooooof/wooooosh noise is the long noise that i can tell is air being released back in to the recirc pipe. I have read that the HKS has 2 valves and I am wondering if this has anything to do with the 2 flutter noise before the wooosh? If i lay on the gas hard it only makes one flut then folows with the toooof/woooooosh.

if that makes any sense. let me know if anyone gets the same thing. thanks in advance.

Any more info on this? I've never heard of this, but my mileage has been suffering the last few fillups.

i'd say go over it make sure you arent leaking anywhere, check vacuum an recirc hose then make sure youre hks vavle isnt loose, check your bolts on the cold pipe make sure they are tight an nothings leaking..

could maybe be gas.

im pretty modded but, i have an hks vavle and consistently see 32mpg. i drive conservatively tho an mostly highway, and usually avg 70mph. key is to drive slow an this car will get pretty damn good gas mileage.

It's the mix of "winter gas" and you pushing the car more into boost to get that satisfying blow-off sound. I hear flutter is normal under part boost for the HKS.
