So I read the stickies and all, did a little searching but I keep getting mixed results. Will the aem standalone interface with an auto protege or am I stuck with ss-ftc?

Are you referring to the AEM FIC box? That is not a standalone. It controls fuel and ignition.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ <<True story, need to pay attention to details before you buy something and slap yourself for it later. I always thought AEM was the way to go but as it turns out unless you have a car that they have pre-tuned for it is kind of a waste of time in my opinion. I have been searching around and while I know there are a couple options, I have personally been paying attention to the Haltech Sprint 500 and the Platinum 1000. There is a considerable price difference in the two and I am looking for the details on what the MAJOR performance differences are but haven't found anything conclusive yet other that resolution....still trying to figure out that part 16x16 or 32x32. Either way, one thing I have learned is the BRAIN(ECU) is something you would rather buy first and build around and into rather than try to build a engine and set up a ECU around it, cart before the horse if you will.

From surface view and knowledge I would say that the Haltech Sprint 500 would do just about any of us perfectly and for those that are a little bit more advanced or looking to get totally crazy the Platinum 1000.
These are BOTH standalone units that come with tuning software and if I remember correctly I think you can contact the company and they will help you with a base tune. From there you can learn it on your own or take it to a tune shop.
