AEM Short Ram Intake Question...

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this in, but I figured that the MP3 owners would know best.

I just recently got an AEM SRI for my MP3. The box said that it was for manual tranny. I installed it w/ no problem and the car runs fine. The other day, I was on the board and saw another members picture of his intake. He claimed that it was the AEM SRI on his MP3. It was alot longer than mine. So, my question to you guys is, is the AEM SRI for the manual tranny longer than the automatic?? My SRI is really short, so I'm thinking that I received an automatic intake. I tried searching this, but couldn't find anything.

If I did get the automatic intake, is there a difference in performance?? I can't really complain, cuz I got the intake for free. I just want to make sure that I get the right intake for the car. I took the car to the track 2 weeks ago and it ran better than when I ran it stock (6 10ths of a second faster on the 1/8th mile). The only bad thing about this intake is that the filter gets really hot after I do a pass. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Why don't you take a pic under the hood, then show us and we tell you if your's is good or not.

I would, but I'm poor and I don't have one of those nice little digital camera's. :(

All I know is that the filter to my AEM SRI is right on top, almost in front of the MAF. There's a 45 degree elbow after the MAF and it curves towards the fender. This elbow piece is only like 6 inches long. The picture that I saw of the SRI, the elbow after the MAF curved downward towards the bottom of the engine bay, and the elbow was alot longer than mine. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for the help though.

Yes, you have the one for automatics. I wouldn't sweat it, though. I seriously doubt there is any "real" performance difference between the two. I drive an AT, and I have the AEM. Most of the difference is in eliminating the stock piping and getting a little better throttle response, even though it's not a "cold air" intake. I like it!

I appreciate the responses. I figured there wasn't much of a difference. The car runs just fine w/ the short ram. I was thinking about making a heat shield for the filter, but I saw somewhere that when you put a heatshield you actually loose hp. I saw a dyno where an intake w/ an injen heatshield lost a couple of hp, but it gained some torque. I was thinking about trying it to see what happens.

Thanks for the help!!:)
