AEM manual vs. auto

Is there a big difference between the two AEMs (auto and manual)?

I have an auto and want to know if anyone else has pics of the auto model? Does it curve over to the right like the ractive style?

The manual one seems to go down into the engine compartment more. Seems like it would be hotter down there than where the ebay one points. But I am a newb and don't know anything...

Pics of AEM installs would be awesome. I searched but couldn't find...

Well, if you have an auto, you won't be able to fit the one made for manuals due to your auto tranny's positioning.

And, as far as differences in performance between the two, it seems that there really aren't any.

With the Proteges, an intake is an intake. I have the AEM, but I probably should've gotten a cheap E-bay intake. Hope this helps.

And, yes, the auto model curves like the Ractive one.

AEM is an aftermarket parts company. they are talking about the air intake. i bought a vibrant intake for $60 and as far as i can tell it works just as good as my buddys AEM intake. just my .02

No it doesn't. Its teeny tiny. I barely curves if at all. check on protegeclub.com for a picture of the AEM automatic. I believe the username is jasonkilpa

I have the AEM auto intake. I'm trying to tell him that it doesn't dip down into the engine bay, and that it takes a curve to the right, however slight it may be.

I must have misunderstood. In that case, I agree with your statement.:D

Thanks for the replies guys.
shaunmp5... how do you find the intake? Is it good for throttle response. Have you been able to compare it to anything else? Standard questions, its just you're the first I have heard from with the auto intake which is a well different design than the manual and I would expect would behave somewhat differently.

I am not expecting big HP gain, just throttle response.

How is it in hot weather?

Throttle response is improved slightly. I do think the stock tubing/airbox is pretty restrictive. All in all, the biggest change you'll notice is in sound.

That being said, go for the Ebay "Bomz" style intake. It's much cheaper, and I'm positive you'll get the same performance out of it. Unless you're going strictly for appearance. In that case, the Injen looks pretty nice. Very expensive, though, and not a big gain (if any) in HP.

My $.02

You can get an Injen CAI for just a little over $200 "polished". Supposedly the dyno chart states a 5.1 increase in WHP. It definitely sounds good.
