AEM Intake Question

Hi Everyone!

I am fairly mechanically savy. I have worked at garages in the summer during high school.

I Installed The AEM intake on my 2005 Mazda 3 Hatch. Install went incredibly smooth(Except for the bolt closest to the bumper to remove the lower part of the old air box assembly). I went for a little drive afterwards and I scared the crap out of these old people once it hit over 4000 RPM. In fact, i wasn't expecting it to make such a loud noise. It almost felt like just before it shifted the car was gonna shake apart.

My Question. Is this normal? I have friends with intakes and exhaust combos and this intake alone comes close to the sound of the aftermarket exhaust they have.

Thanks guys,

I have the AEM CAI and it definitely makes more sound, but only at more than 50% throttle. At WOT it is louder than the exhaust from 4k to redline RPM, but I wouldn't call it frightening and it doesn't vibrate any more than the factory intake.
Are you experiencing a "rattle" or a shake coming up through the suspension?

Maybe it was the sound vibrating my head. (uhm)

I have no CEL It's just bloody loud when i get on the throttle like you said about 50%. I guess im not used to the power output or the sound for that matter.

I owned a hyundai accent with a whopping 91HP at the crank! So this is a big change. I watched youtube videos of AEM but standing next to my car or being inside is completely different than watching the vids.

Thanks Mazdafreak67.

hey zoomzoom is it a cai or a sri? im going to be getting a sri for my bday in a bout a month n half! :-) i look forward to the sound lol, they sound swwwwwwwwwweeeet! and the little gains are always a plus!

It's the CAI. I have used half a tank of gas just zipping around town in Manual mode. SO MUCH FUN!! I am turning heads too!
