mazdaspeed 3 cosmic boo
Just wondered if anyone has installed this fixit for the Mazdaspeed 3. I purchased mine from JSC for so inexpensive that what the heck! I have my opinion anyone else?

Yeah I have had mine on since October. Have had no problems. Before I used to get more of a stutter at highway speeds when you roll onto the throttle but now its pretty much smoothed everything out. (yes it wasn't below 3000rpms). Its well worth the 15 bucks.

I installed mine a few weeks ago... I thought I noticed a difference at first, but now I don't think it's much different than it was (it wasn't bad to begin with). I haven't logged it before and after though... so I'm sure the MAF readings are cleaner. My butt datalogger just can't pick up the difference.

I was having a random misfire last fall that threw the code. I thought it was an ignition problem, and may still be. I still need to swap out the plugs to the colder Densos but she seems smoother all the way up the rpm band now. I also am using the infamous Butt data logger for now!

How did you guys install it-
With the AFS vanes parallel to the MAF(per the AEM instructions)? or
With the AFS vanes at a 45 degree angle to the MAF(per the MS instructions)?

I installed it parallel to the MAF and haven't had a problem with it.

air straightener to old style ms cai?

Can I add the straightener to my old style ms cai? I see they are only like $15.

I got my MS CAI in spring of 08 so I believe it is the "old style". I put the straightner in fine and even though I dont have a dashhawk according to what I've read on here it should be helping out.

Cool. Was it hard to do? I am sort of a mechanical idiot but hope to change that. I gotta start somewhere.

I too looked at this, all it does is control the air going through the cai? What is the positives of that? I don't know much about this piece. I got my ms cai in fall of 07. It should work

It is very easy, be sure to line up the vanes though. The purpose of this piece is to decrease the turbulence or swirling at th MAF. I did not think it would do much. But it sure did wonders

What do you mean it did wonders? My cai runs great. Don't see how it would make it run better than it is now

I did not think i had issues. Now the motor seems to rev much smoother and from 4500 up. it just pulls till redline. Fifth and sixth seem to be affected the most though. I have hit the redline in fifth without realizing that i could be there already. That never used to happen. And sixth just gets silly. Now i have had a bunch of things going on with my car and modifications. Problems and lotsof good things too. I also was having random misfire codes that Mazda was looking at last fall before i put the car up for winter. Maybe it is a combo of the Densos ( colder ) and the air straightener or something else? But my motor is running great right now and the car is strong like bear. i am just an opinion. i have no data to represent. I have checked afrs after bolting on bits worried i might be lean (HAHa hardly)but do not data log. And my project is far from complete also. Folks said there was a problem with the MSCAI so for fifteen bucks what the heck. When you see the piece you will see why it might make sense in some applications.

Redline in 5th? Jesus! How fast is that anyway?
