A couple of weeks ago my wife was driving the CX-9 and she turned on the heat for the first time since last winter. She said right away she smelled smoke and even pulled over. She didn't notice anything and it seemed to have stopped, so she kept driving (I believe with the heat off now). Fast forward a couple weeks and she noticed the A/C is no longer working (yeah, some crazy weather lately). I did verify this as well. It's got about 35k miles on it (still under warranty), so we took it to the dealer right away. They determined the problem to be a "small hole in condenser due to road damage" and won't cover it under warranty due to it being a result of "road damage". Does this make sense to anyone? Could it possibly related to when my wife turned the heat on that time? She doesn't remember hitting anything in the road...I would think if she hit something to cause a hole in the condenser she would have noticed. I know I can try to file an insurance claim, and I've already begun that process, but we have a $500 deductible, and my insurance agent isn't even sure a claim would get approved. The repair is expected to be around $1,000.
Any advice would be appreciated!
