Mazdaspeed3
Hi, I've been obsessed with the speed3 ever since seeing it up close at the NY auto show last April and have been lurking here and other places getting as much info as I can.
My local dealership has a 2007 GT that has about 500 miles on the odometer. I test drove the car a few weeks ago and came away impressed=) My current car is a 1999 BMW 323i thats got 143,000 miles. I'm the second owner and love this car but realize with no warranty=no peace of mind. Posted it on craigslist but only received calls from freaks. The dealership said they would give me my asking price of $7,500 contingent upon an appraisal.

My question is: Should I be asking for more off the price? And, when is a car considered used? I'm a little leary of buying a speed thats been the test mule for so many!!

Thanks for any help!!

I dealer considers a new car up to 2,000 miles I believe... I know its some ridiculous number...

Earlier this year, I tried buying a 2005 Mazdaspeed Miata and it was traded in by the original owner. The dealer was selling it at the new car price because it only had 2,000 miles on it... Seems like the car was driven once on a long road trip and then garaged. Needless to say, the car remained on the lot for a long time...and their price went down significantly...

Are there any other ones you could buy...? Like a 2008?

You could buy a 2008 sport for like $22,800 - $7,500 = $15,300 for a new car...that ain't a bad car payment... Under $300 a month...

I would try to get one with less miles...like 10 miles on it...

Mine had 11 miles on it and I ordered it (came straight off the boat)!!! Seems like the dealer has this required test drive they must do...they warned me ahead of time that they had to do like a 10 mile test on it...

Yeah I have considered an 08 sport but the temptation of having the extra goodies of the GT is there(crazy)

One thing I don't like about the GT is the leather patches. Just give me all or nothing.

I would never buy a new car that had more than 20 miles on it, especially on a car like the MS3. I promise you that car has seen 500 miles of abuse from people just test driving with no intention to buy. I told my dealer I would back out of the deal if my car had more than 10 miles on it. I received it with only 8 miles.

Tell the dealer if he comes off the price $1,000 you will buy. If he doesn't, get one that has fewer miles, they are still around. No need to buy a car with 500 miles on it when you can get one with 10 miles for the same price.

Don't get me wrong, I love my ms3 bcuz it has performance, space, and good value, but if i had the money , i would buy a BMW. It's always been a dream of mine to own a BRAND NEW bimmer. Anyways, if you're a bmw enthusiast, try looking at the new 1 series bimmer, it's suppose to be nice. might be in the 30k range though. or the twin turbo 3 series...

But if you're looking for a cheap sports compact...ms3 is the king so far.. you might enjoy it since it don't hurt your pocket too much ;-)

BMW's are great cars but at this stage in my life, 34 and paying a mortgage I can't justify spending 30k on a car. Besides when the 1 series finally becomes available there's sure to be big mark-ups in price and inevitably way too many of em on the road.

I'm starting to think I will back away from this deal. An 08 sport with under 10 miles gives me peace of mind.
