Adding NAV to 2014 Mazda3

I've got a Canadian GS model which is equipped with HMI with NAV being optional. It was a $425 dealer option and still available to me after delivery.

My question doesn't seem to be addressed in the service manual floating around out there. I am wondering what exactly is added on in this $425. My salesperson seemed to believe it's simply an SD card upgrade and was confident in confirming that all the GPS antennas were in-place (makes sense as the time-sync feature still works).

Anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks Ceric,

I saw that and although it says 2014 Mazda 3, the telltale sign that it's incorrect is that it refers to multiple other Mazdas equipped with the 5.7" unit whereas the Mazda 3 has a 7" display.

Does your car have an SD port? In the US the 7" HMI unit comes with navigation. It may be similar to the CX-5 navigation add-on I know thats the 5.7" tom tom unit but everything is already in place and the dealer just installed the SD Card reader. If you do have an SD card reader it might be as simple as obtaining the proper SD card.

Yes the Canadian GS model has the complete HMI unit except for Navigation. When selecting NAV from the command center it prompts you to contact Mazda for the add-on. The car also comes equipped with the SD reader as well.

I was under the impression the CX-5 additionally needed the Navigation add-on which gets installed under the TPMS buttons on the dash, or is that only to add the SD capability?

I think you can just put the SD card in to make the navi work no? When I test drove the 3 a while back I was checking the navi and got that message to contact mazda too. The sales guy told me there was no SD card in it but when I get the car it'll come with the SD card.

This was the test drive for the 2014 mazda 3 early last month, I've then purchased the car already.

$425?! I asked the question (also got a GS with no nav installed) and they ballparked it at $1000.

I figured it would be an outrageous amount so I didn't even ask. I may next week when I'm at mazda for other stuff

$425? Yikes. I got the same message on my GS, but while I would love Nav built in (running from phone through car speakers just isn't the same), I'm not sure I like that price tag. I wonder if there are just files you can download to an SD card that will work?

The SD card from Ebay listed above is for a TomTom based nav, it will not work in the 2014 Mz3.

2014 GS Sport (Canadian). I paid the $425, put the card in and it worked. Part # BHY1-79-EZX.
Hoping I have not overpaid!

Hmmm, I'm in the same situation as you guys. $425 seems like a bit of cash grab considering the hardware is already installed in vehicle. I bet the SD card image could be saved and written to a $5 blank card. Here's to hoping there's a leak!

Hi guys!

In Europe - Croatia, Mazda car dealers sell SD card navigation maps for a 5200kn = 925$ !!! I made a little investigation, and new Mazda3 2014 (for sure in Europe) has NNGs "iGO" navigation engine (not TomTom anymore):

I downloaded some cracked versions of iGO, but as I am waiting for my new Mazda3 to come, I didn't try them yet.

Hi guys,
I got a brand new Mazda 3, without the navigation SD Card. Can you please explain me or send me a picture where i can find the navigation unit? I want to check if i can buy only a sd Card or i need to buy also the unit. the navigation was activated in the car but the seller deactivated it ("no SD Card, only the compass is shown on the screen when i press the navigation button).
Thank u for your help

Jan

correct me if i am wrong

The "navigation unit" is just the SD with the maps and the system. The hardware is already there (the SD slot, the Display, the "OS") , the only thing that is needed (and that is sold separately in some models) is the sd card, model Part # BHY1-79-EZX (this one is also confirmed in Mazda's page)

Mario, i will try that during the week since my desktop does not have SD bay, will have to use a friends laptop.
