Adding gauges

I'd like to add some basic gauges. Oil pressure, oil temp, transmission temp, volts. Anybody done this? Where did you mount the gauges?

One way to do this would be with an OBDII device like UltraGauge. It's relatively small and would be easy to mount somewhere on the dash. I have one in my Outback, really like it.

I installed an oil temp/pressure gauge from SpeedHut. Analog. My 2011 Mazda2 is only equipped with an oil pressure switch, which alerts to very low pressure, so I installed a sandwich plate between the engine and oil filter to allow install of temp and pressure sensors. I then had to route the cables through the firewall and up to the dash. After considering several locations, I opted to mount the gauge on the side of the cluster hood.

The gauge is very nice. I was able to pick backlighting that matched the cluster. I think they will do custom fonts if you want the numbers to match your stock display exactly, but I was able to pick something that was close enough.

This is the one I used

I think you'd be limited to mounting the gauges in the center console area, just below the HVAC controls, in the din where the 12v socket is. Not sure if you'll have enough room for 4 gauges there, but it's pretty much the only spot that wouldn't involve drilling into the dashboard or obstructing any airbags.

It would probably have to be a custom, one-off fabrication since people don't usually put analog gauges on cars like these, but an experienced audio install shop could do a fiberglass enclosure, or if you know someone with lots of experience in 3D printing, they might be able to model and print something for you.
