Adding a Sub

Just wondered if I have to buy some kind of remote turn on for my amp or if I can just wire it into the fuse box/wiring of the factory stereo? I noticed someone else had to wire something in to activate his amp.

you need an ignition source for your amp.... remote turn on... the amp is looking for 12v to turn on, you don't want to run this off of the batt b/c you don't want your amp on all the time... you want to tie it in to an ignition source so when the car is on the amp is on....

EDIT*** the remote turn on i believe is for a manual turn on, so you can control when your amps are on/off....

He's just being a tool, ignore him.
I could add a sub to a friggen KFC bucket if I was so motivated so you can bet your ass it can be added to a 3's factory system.

i can see it now.... craig bumpin down the street to the beat of two family size buckets... lmao... hahahaha...

Please post pics when you install those KFC buckets in your trunk.... if you do so, you must wear a chicken suit to drive around.... and don't forget to install a towelette dispenser ;-)

That should do for a finger licking good install (laugh)

If i remember how i wired my amp.... there are 2 12v leads on the radio, one is always on and the other is connected to accessory switch. I spliced into the accessory lead on the radio harness. Simple!

Any idea what the wire looked like? Someone else on here has a pic of the wiring harness....

Not sure... because i did not spliced into the OE harness, i have built a passthrough using 2 aftermarket harness ... a regular and a reverse. This way i did not cut at all into the original wiring.

You could also easily splice into the 12v outlet (cigarette lighter), it is switched. The remote turn-on takes something like less than 100ma to turn an amplifier on.

i believe it was orange and black i tapped into... there is a link here somewhere of what wires to tap...if you have a volt meter you could just test that wire to see if i am right..
