Actually getting 400 miles each tank?

iv got an 02 5-speed pro5 with 133k on the motor. ive had it for about a month now. first tank was half highway half city and i averaged 31.2 mpg,
second tank was all city driving and i was balls to the wall the entire tank because i had just installed my ebay cat back exhaust and i still managed 25.8 mpg and i seriously mean pedal to the metal the entire tank lol. im 1/4th through my 3rd tank being all city but starting tomorrow im commuting an hour and a half one way for the new job site (will find out the miles tomorrow) so the rest of this tank and the next few for the next few weeks will be alllll highway. Im eager to see what i can push through...my goal is atleast 33mpg!

I filled up @ 416.5 miles on the ODO this last tank. Fillup was 13.0X gals. That was about 32 mpg. Mostly highway @ 65. Maybe 10-12 stoplights per day; the rest is cruising with cruise control. I (probably?) could have safely gone to 450 miles, but I would have sputtered and coasted in to the next fuel stop if I took it that far!

'02 5 speed on California (E10) gas, ~83k miles, 100% stock save for a chinese cone filter. Minimum 100 lbs cargo at all times (up to 250 lbs). Factory sunroof baffle and roof rack on top. Expect about 5% better numbers if you live in a place where you still get pure gasoline.

I'll call it now - I bet I can hit a 35 MPG average over a tank of gas with the stock gearing. Hoping to try some eco-mods soon but my schedule and living situation make it tough to wrench right now. :(

Slap an MSP turbo kit on it and drive it the same way as you were and 36 isn't out of the question. I have a few friends who used to do that regularly.

*teardrop

so you're suggesting KL swap? It shall be epic

Last week I had one fuel up that I got 35 mpg, then the next was only 28. Most likely it was because I was driving all highway and no city driving. I knew the next was going to be bad because I was really pushing it going back and forth to work and not much else. These engines can do great MPG if ran right.

I also added a little bottle of Lucas Tune up in a bottle the prior week since it had been a year. That usually adds a few MPG for a couple of months.

my best tank is 548.5 averaging 52mph from roanoke, va to henderson, tn. i made the trip again at normal highway speed (65-75) and still got 450 out of the tank. i have a 2002 auto p5

I wish I could get close to the numbers some people have been posting here... Up until my last fill up, I was only getting 23mpg. My last was 27mpg, but I believe it was only due to the fuel injection cleaner that I had put in and an ecu reset.

Oddly enough, my AEM SRI didn't do squat to improve my fuel efficiency. Most of my driving is city, but I was hoping I could get more than 23mpg.

How do you run it? If I'm hard on it I get around 25 mpg normal driving I get 30 with regular gas and 32 with premium. Summer usually adds ~2 mpg

Holy crap that is amazing.

Yeah, I have a feeling the auto doesn't buzz as high @ highway speed. Plus, that's almost a 600 mile drive from Roanoke to Henderson - 100% highway miles! Not exactly representative of most commutes. ;) Plus, if I drove 52mph out here, I'd get shot or run off the road. Even at 62-65, I get nasty looks all the time and people swerving around me, and I'm scared of being pulled over for holding up traffic. lol. :(

This tank is looking promising so far, but it's a bit early to tell. Still, at the 3/4 mark, I'm above 100 miles. By how much, I'm not sure yet. But if I break last tank's record, I'll know the grill block did something, as my drive is identical week to week. Here's hoping! :)

i made the trip overnight so i wouldnt be in the way. to maximize the fuel mileage i didnt stop once in the 10.5 hour trip lol

loud music and several cokes lol...plus i was determined to make the whole trip on one tank. I even took some extra gas with me just in case. I didn't plan on stopping until i got to a gas station in henderson or just ran out

That's the best way to find out just how far you can go on every last ounce of fuel...I've wanted to try that in my car, but it just hasn't been convenient enough to time it right with the fuel can in the car (I'd want to time it so I pretty much knew what trip it would run out at, so I only need the fuel can in the car for one trip). It's one thing to calculate it on paper, but it's more satisfying to see the numbers click off on the odometer in front of you. :) Awesome range you got there, that's some crazy MPGs!

Look at the differences in MPG vs MPH for Aerocivic...

95 mpg (US) at 65 mph
(2.5 L/100 km at 105 km/h ... 40.4 km/L ... 114 mpg (Imp.))
85 mpg (US) at 70 mph
(2.8 L/100 km at 113 km/h ... 36.1 km/L ... 102.1 mpg (Imp.))
65 mpg (US) at 80 mph
(3.6 L/100 km at 129 km/h ... 27.6 km/L ... 78.1 mpg (Imp.))
50 mpg (US) at 90 mph
(4.7 L/100 km at 145 km/h ... 21.3 km/L ... 60.1 mpg (Imp.))

...pretty nuts, a difference of 10mpg just from 65 to 70 mph!!! Driving slow really pays off.
