ACT Street Clutch

is it worth buying for my car? $295 + s/h direct from ACT.

i tried asking my local tranny place and they said i would burn it out within two weeks...wtf did they mean by that. they suggested for an OEM replacement.

any ideas or anyone with this? i have read alot about it and how satisfied with how it is, but is there anything i need to know before committing?

I've burned up two OEM plates in 31k miles and will therefore be switching to an ACT setup should this be just a clutch and not a tranny issue.

that local tranny place = idiots if they told you that. although i doubt you are pushing too much torque for the stock clutch, why do you want an upgrade?

i drag every once in a while and the street clutch said that is provided the capacity for good street engagment and also for the weekened racer.

i figured that it can handle more punishment too so i figured it would last longer.

the ACT Street has a lot of chatter (at least on the ACT Street disk for the Maxima)

The clamping was good, the pedal pressure was there (felt like a HD Mustang clutch engaging) but I would not recommend it for every day stop'n go traffic. You'll have a left calf muscle that is bigger than the other! :D

As for the Street Disk burning up in 2 weeks... sure it's possible only if they install it improperly.

I had an act clutch on my crx and it was a pain in traffic. As for racing...WOW, what a differance. The engagment is hella quick. I didn'nt experiance any chater though. There is no way you will burn up a act street clutch in two weeks unless you install it incorrectly or don't let it break in correctly. I say do it, you won't regret it at all untill you are in stop and go traffic.

i had an act xt (2600lb pressure plate) with street disk on my fwd dsm. yea it was more effort, but it wasn't unbearable. you get used to it, even in stop and go traffic. i had no chatter either, and loved the feel of the clutch. as long as you install it correctly and use the factory tob you should have no problems with it burning out in two weeks. i recommend them

nah traffic is not a big deal here...yet. our town is only 100,000 and we have very little to no stop and go traffic.

Your local tranny place must be into top fuel drag racing. Of course a ACT clutch will not burn up in 2 weeks. That is the point in getting one. I would suggest you get an organic clutch instead of a puck design. It will hold plenty of power. The puck design will rip into your flywheel and be a b**** for daily driving.

My ACT holds power down from my RX-7 which is putting out close to 400rwhp. I've had it for around 2 years and still has not burnt up.

I'd get a ACT Xtreme Pressure Plate and the Hybrid Disc. It would be a lot stiffer pedal feel but it would hold plenty of power even the HD setup is plenty.

that is exactly what is in the street performance clutch, a hybrid disc and a heavy duty but not xtreme pressure plate though.

you mean organic clutch? Act carries a street or organic clutch. Not a hybrid clutch, right?

Your car doesn't need anything bigger than a ss. Your car doesn't put out enough torque for anything more powerfull.

ok guys thanks for all the opinions, im definately getting it. anyway screw that tranny place, they said 325 labor, 75 for flywheel resurfacing, and 168.10 for a stock clutch.

i think i will buy the ACT and have me and a good friend tear it apart.

nah my hands will be all nasty and i dont want to touch my camera with dirty hands :p

Have someone else take the pics. Ya might want a buddy there to help ya anyway. The tranny can be a b**** to manuever and besides who else is gonna help you drink the beer.

yeah i plan on having 3 people total working on the job. me, an experienced person and my friend who is good with cars also.

hehe im not of drinking age i guess ill have cherry kool aid or something :p
