Accident

How did he manage to make the doors look like this? Does your neighboor own an Suv? The smash goes until a bit under the window!!!

Wow both doors will need to replaced and if its anything like the doors on my gf 6 its 800 a door and thats used, plus paint, installation, ect, ect.... ! It also looks like your front fender may have a small dent near the edge but hard to tell due to the lighting so that could be a reflection.

Yeah, he drives a full size Chevy Silverado. I should check out that front bumper. I didn't notice anything but maybe it's messed up too. I know, it seems like the hood is not quite as flush on the driver's side as it is on the side that was not hit. I mean, it's very very subtle, but it's there. The quote on the repairs so far was something like $637 per door skin, exterior only before paint.

And I'm not having anything used put on my car. I don't care if it costs his insurance company $6k.

Having a used door actually is better then having a brand new door, because the used door is made at the factory with all the parts included and built in already. The new door is bare there is NOTHING in the door the shop has to build the door, I trust the factory over the shop because the people in the factory thats all they do is build doors.

I would agree $2800 does sound low. I got bumped while pumping gas. (by this hot 17 / 18 year old girl) Anyway, it was $800 just to repair a little scratch in the bumper!

My 3 got smashed by a tree last year.

New hood, new roof, new moonroof, new windshield, a few new inside panels due to glass damage, and an entire new passenger side (front fender, front and rear doors, with all new glass and new sideview mirror and housing) except for the back fender. New wiring to moonroof, auto dimming rearview mirror and sideview mirror on the passenger side.

All that with labour and painting was about $12,400. Luckily, my comprehensive covered it (since it was in my own driveway) and I only had to pay the $500 deductible.

After a week of waiting for parts, I dropped my 3 off today. Now I'm pimping an '09 Dodge Avenger. (rockon) NOT!! The drive from Enterprise back to work reminded me exactly why the Big Three are in a world of hurt right now. What a total pile this car is.

But hey, at least it's not costing me anything. ;)

I'm getting her back today! Last Friday, it was supposedly done, and I went in to check her out. I noticed a two or three very tiny bubbles in the clear coat and told them that. Well, the body shop manager came out and said he never approved the car, so I should not have been told it was done. Apparently, they fixed those bubbles today using some fine sanding and polishing. I hope that's standard procedure. I'm going in to check it out after work today. Hope all goes well.

I can't wait to get out of this POS Dodge Avenger!(dance)

Question on Paint

Okay, so today it was fairly sunny outside despite getting lots of snow yesterday. I wanted to check over the paintwork on the side that was hit. Upon doing so, It definitely seems like the paint match on the doors is just a hair off from the side skirt, which they left untouched. It seems as though the new doors are just the slightest bit bluer. Very subtle, but I can see it. Now they did re-clearcoat the side that was hit except for the front and rear bumper - essentially the front quarter panel.

The other thing I think am seeing is that the hood, like the sideskirts is tad off from the the front quarter panel. I looked on the other side as a reference and that side seems to have a perfect match between quarter panel and hood while the impact side appears to reveal the hood as being a hair yellower/grayer than the quarter panel which looks a little bluer.

What do you guys think? I can have them redo the sideskirt but should they do the hood too? Might the whole car need to be re-clearcoated for a perfect match?

Can anyone with a Galaxy Gray 3 let me know if it is just the way the light hits the hood, which gives the appearance of a paint mismatch?

Mine's not a difference of being shinnier. I have at least 5 coats of wax on the older paint. It's truly a different shade. I washed my car and I definitely noticed that the door handles don't quite match. They are like the hood. Yellowish or less blue. I have narrowed it down to three things.

1) They did not match the paint exactly, 2) maybe it needs some time to cure and it will match (the body shop said 90 days to completely cure), 3) perhaps somehow when I car is waxed it changes the shade of the color????

I don't know. But if it the color does not change any, I am going to have them fix it, even if it means painting the whole thing again.

Update After Second Garage

Just got car back from the second garage - dealership. This makes the third attempt in all (2 at the first place - horrible work, 1 at the second) Paint match is pretty darn spot on, especially with the hood. The painted side is a tad shinier than the rest of the vehicle but I was told it will even out in time, especially after a good cleaning and waxing of the whole vehicle. There's very, very minor paint run/buildup along door edges which is actually consistent with factory painted side. They did also have to clean up overspray on the inside of the vehicle as well as the outside from the clearcoat job done at the last place. In addition they removed the appropriate mils of paint layer on the previous botch job so that it is more consistent with the rest of the vehicle. Pretty satisfied with the paint job.

Only a few issues, though. Front door tint is scratched and that was actually pointed out to me by the shop manager. He said they will pay to have the window retinted. Also, I noticed that the clear gauge cluster shield has some deep scratches in it that must have occurred during the interior cleanup from the overspray. So, they are also going to replace that shield too after finding out if it is a one piece or three piece unit. Finally, I think they need to make the doors just a tad tigher, as there's just a bit too much play in them.

Otherwise, I am almost back to original condition, pre accident.

I'd be pretty excited just to have it back and close to new. I know what you mean about having a hard time with shops. Good thing they are willing to fix all the little problems though!

I have a friend with a Screaming Yellow Mach 1 that had the whole drivers side replaced, his car is 3 or 4 different shades of yellow and it looks AWFUL.

Yeah, it looks like the clear plastic gauge cluster shield is all one piece. They told me they should be able to do a replacement while I wait, which is good because I hate dropping my car off and getting a loaner/rental. Just to be cautious, I think I will place some painters tape around any trim pieces that have to be popped off. My interior is flawless and I intend to keep it that way.
