Accesssory Option

I just ordered a Mazda3 5dr about two weeks ago, and when I was looking at the brochure afterwards, I noticed that there was an option to add a Auto-Dim Mirror w/ Compass and Outside Temp. They make another one of the same that comes with the Homelink system. I called my dealership and they told me I can get the first one for $400.00 and the one with home link for $450.00.

I was wondering if anyone has either of these options and if you think its worth the money? Also if you know of a place to get it cheaper please let me know. I am interested in adding the one of the options, but I'm not sure if it's worth that much.

Thanks.

Bijou, Thanks I may have to consider that more. It's a lot better than 400.
But if I purchase that, will my dealership install it for me? Or will they give me that "It's not from us BS"?

I guess my other option is to have someone else install it. but i'm wondering if that will void any sort of warranty?

don't worry, any dealer can install it for you but...don't waste any money on it.
do it yourself, if you want to save money...otherwise take other performance auto shop and let them install it for ya. it will be much cheaper.

I have that option on my Mercedes now and it's pretty cool. The autodim is helpful, however it is something I can easily live without. It came along with the "luxury" package. The homelink would come in handy, but you probably would have to subscribe to it. It's great peace of mnd if you get into an accident. The Homelink operator can dispatch an ambulance immediately to your location with GPS. My advice is not to get the option, because that's alot for a 18K car. I would spend it on an audio upgrade instead. :D

Thanks for the help. I'll have to figure out what to do in the next month.
And Bijou, thanks for the link, I'm definatly going to look into that.

WRONG!

Homelink is the system that allowed you to operate your garage door/house lights without the house remote. Onstar is the subscription service that is like a cell phone. Two very different things.

Homelink: http://www.homelink.com/home/home.tml

Onstar: http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/index.jsp

I used Homelink on my Acura but it's a PAIN to program on newer garage doors and I have NO idea how it would work with house lights.

Well i have the Auto-Dimming mirror on my 2002 MP5, and id say it's pretty useful. It's got the compass and temperature readings, and if cars behind you have really bright headlights (due to raised cars, h.i.d.'s, etc) it automatically refracts the light so that it doesnt blind you at all.

Oops, sorry and thanks for the correction. I thought the Homelink was like "Tele-Aid" and "Onstar" for Mazda. I don't know much about Mazda or Japanese cars, but I'm learning. :D

Sorry to jack this thread, but... does anyone know how much the package for the Xenon lights would cost to be installed after you buy the car? I was told it had xenons with it but after i drive it away and the next day I drive it at night, i turn the headlights on and yeah, its just regular projector HID's. Is this even possible or do you have to buy the car with the xenons already installed?

I thought xexon was part of new mazda3's option. if you have HID in it, then you should be able to see ballasts somewhere in hood. and dont' bother asking dealer to install it for ya. they will charge ton.
either do it yourself or go to local auto performance shop to install it for ya.

The xenons on the mazda3 come with an option on the left side of the car where you can change the brightness of the lights. I don't have one. The HID's which are regular projectors are different than xenons.

I have the Xenon option and part of that is a dial inside the car to the left of the steering wheel that allows you to adjust the height of the beam to compensate for a load. I forget the term HID and Xenon are interchangeable, to a degree. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question387.htm

I really couldn't tell you what the aftermarket cost would be for the Xenon system. The package price from the factory is $700 with TPMS.

Sigh... the package is the Xenon and TPMS package which is the tire pressure monitoring package. Without that, you get regular projector headlights. If you don't get the package, you get regular HID projector headlights, they are bright, but not nearly as bright as the xenon's. Do you have a 3? Obviously not. Right next to where you can change the interior lighting there is the same type of option where you can change the intensity of the xenons. You can see it on this pic: http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/3/web/495000-495999/495680_9_full.jpg . That's the "******* HID" xenon package.

what's got tire pressure monitoring have to due with light output dumbass? obviously, if you don't have HID your projector will be useless. and why would you need control intensity of xenon, if you don't have one?

Exactly you ******* idiot. The xenon package COMES WITH the TPMS. And your just making yourself look like a ******* moron. There are different types of HID's. Can you not read? I said the xenon package comes with the control for it. Since you don't understand the concepts of different types of HID's and you'd be completely baffaled if I told you what it was, so I tried to tell you in something you can read. When you get the xenon package, there is a control for the intensity. I was told I had xenons, and i was completely unaware that such a control existed at the time I bought the car, so I took the salesman's word that it did come with it. How could I test to see if they were when I bought it during the day? So I didnt bother to look. Later after I bought the car and read about it I realised that I don't have that control, I knew I didn't have xenon's. My simple question was does anyone know how much it would cost to get the xenon package without the TPMS option installed, hopefully lowering the $700 package which includes both the Xenons and the TPMS package to somewhat cheaper. Have you read anything about the 3? Obviously not. Do you have one? Obviously not. There are 3 packages that can be purchased with the 3. Each with 2 different options inside the package. Read the post before mine and you'll realise the difference between Xenon HID's and regular HID's. Otherwise, **** off. I don't come here to start s*** I come here to get questions answered, unlike yourself.

Why wouldn't you go to your dealer and ask them the price for the parts required?? I bet all the wiring is there - for the switch.
