Access to the 2017-18 infotainment head unit?

All the tutorials Ive seen are for the older generation. Id like to serial connect to my head unit to tweak it and add functionality, as well, Im adding a subwoofer to the car, so Id like to run an audio cable from the back while Im there.

Anyone with any experience? Is it kind of the same as the 2016s? Or significantly different?

Well it's pretty close to the same as the older version. A couple more screws, but don't need the extension for your 10mm bolt anymore.

For some reason I haven't been able to make the serial connection hack work. My firmware is 59.00.544. It doesn't seem like the transmit is taking :-/ I've been playing with the wire contact, used a couple different telnet softwares, and tried 2 different serial USB adapters. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but the last 2 hours have been pretty frustratinf.
