A Rebuild Story - A Forged MP3 Motor

That is it running basically on an unmodified raw map on the Microtech from a year ago today... so obviously not reflective of a different compression, headwork, new turbo, polished intake, cleaned injectors, etc etc etc... yet it still ran on it... and starts up damn good :). That is also with a vac line hanging loose (oops!) and the timing not having been verified yet and at least one potentional exhaust leak.. so doing all sorts of great there... but proof that she runs... and the flames are cool ;).

ok fixed... I'm going to the garage right now to work on it... have to correct some vacuum stuff and change the oil out and tighten a couple bolts and do some microtech calibration and timing adjustments... hopefully have more videos for you tonight.

Later!

Steve

Haha! That video is great. It's like you have a anti-lag/mis-firing system on your ride. I know that my EMS actually has a feature for Anti-Lag, does the Microtech?

Flames are cool but sparks are bad. Do you have a cat. broken apart in there?

It has some features you can configure to do as such, but nothing directly built for anti-lag... but I have to learn some more of the "fine features" of the system yet... I'll be really tweaking and playing... but it is easy to program in anti-lag if need be with other methods.

turf, seeing as you're like an expert with the microtech. how long you figure to tune to a fairly nice tune to get some numbers?

Was just down stairs working on the oil cooler (found out it DOES need a gasket between the cooler and the block like I assumed from the start but is not listed in TheMan's instructions)... and noticed that the little port that comes from the block, and the port that goes into the oil cooler are on complete opposite sides of one another when the cooler is oriented the way the lines fit to it... thought that was odd!!! Would think you would want them lined up for least amount of restriction... but apparently not quite! or it is to force it through the cooling vanes etc.. so dunno.. but odd.

yep there were remnants of a borken cat and some grinding garbage from when I did the exhaust change... that was basically the first time it got revved after the exhaust was put back on and it was driven much at all... so I'm quite sure that is what the sparks and crap were... but yeah I hear ya! :)

Go drive the thing... lol.

I forgot to get that part number... I'll try to remember it tommorow.

I can usually build a complete map from scratch with most of the cold start stuff in about 1.5 to 2 hours.. someone else... probably about 2-3 hours... it's not too hard... I'll have the base timings worked out for people so they won't have to worry about that... then it'll just be them getting their AFR's right with a wideband...

I will be dynoing a LOT over the summer.. At least 9 runs this summer.. I'm going to do some VICS testing as I have that linked into the Microtech and I'll also put down dynos at 15, 18, 20, 22 and maybe 24 psi... but everything WILL be on 93 octane pump gas...

I got that part.. I'll try to post that part number...

wow just watched Glyph's video with his bent valve... I think I can rule that out... got nothing like that insane noise! I'm going to run a compression test and a timing light though in a few minutes just to get that crap squared up.

but I'm saying, when are YOU gonna get some numbers published? I'm dying to see the fruits of your labor :D

Yeah I'm trying to figure out why mine seems doggy as well. It runs smooth and idles perfect but it just doesn't seem to have much punch. I did a compression test just today, came up with 176-182 between all four. I re-checked the valve lash and ensured the timing was dead on. It seems as though it has a cork up its but or something.
