A new MPS/MS6 owner from Great Britain...

Hello all.

I've just put a deposit down on a 12 month old Mazda 6 MPS, So I'm trawling through your forums and absorbing all the info that you guys have posted...

I'm picking the car up next week, catching a train from London to Manchester, which gives me 160 mile or so to get to know my new ride. Can't wait!

I've come from a little 2004 Toyota MR2 Roadster, which is like chalk to the Mazda's cheese. Its a low power mid engined lightwieght sportscar, whilst the MPS is a bit of a bruiser in comparison!

A quick question for all you gurus out there. The car I looked at, when idling, had a ticking noise coming from the top right side of the engine. I assumed it was probably the high pressure direct injection system, would that be correct?

Cheers guys,

GSB...

Wow... Either this is the least friendly car forum ever, or the MPS6/MS6 is one of the rarest cars on the planet....

This is the welcome forum, right? Hello?... Is there anybody out there?

hahaha, welcome to the Mazda family, probably you havent got an answer yet because there is 6 or more hours difference between UK and USA. nice to know you have bought a MS6 yes they are very very rare, i have recently moved here to Spain and very soon ill be extremely rare, I'm bringing my Mazdaspeed Protg here to the European Union, more specific to Spain.. if you need any sort of help I'm always willing to help a brother, so PM me if you need any help good luck and hope you enjoy your new toy..

Excellent, there is life on the planet after all! I was beginning to think I'd be all on my own here... The time zone difference can be troublesome, but I first posted that message 4 days ago. I've now gone from merely leaving a deposit, to having been driving the car for the last couple of days...

It's a pretty quick car I have to say, although its pretty thirsty on fuel. Doing 24 mpg when 97 Octane fuel is about 5.50 ($10.80) per gallon isn't funny for long. And I'm sorry to say, it's not a lot cheaper in Spain either...

Nice car by the way, I particularly like the RX8 wheels. They suit it perfectly.

haha, thanx... i know in here in Spain gas is insanely high, not like in UK but. im not driving these car daily just on the weekends. these thing eats gas like you have a hole in the tank when you step on it, and is very economical on low boost. but you know i just dont like or feel like to leave it anywhere, and park it anywhere, i dont want my toy to get damaged, you know what i mean.

I know exactly what you mean. Living in London its pretty difficult to park yor car in a place where it wont attract the wrong kind of attention, but thats one of the reasons I bought the MPS, it's a special car that blends into the background. Here in the UK, almost nobody has ever heard of them, and they are a very rare sight on UK roads, In the 3 months I was looking for one, I only ever saw one other 6MPS on the roads.

very nice, thats cool to own something nobody else have, ill feel the same way in here in Spain, where there is NONE, nobody have a Mazdaspeed Protg you know a 323 MPS.. what are your plans on your new car ? its weird that you dont own a Cossie, i love the Cosworths, Sierra, Escort.. and I actually own a 1990 Ford Escort RS Turbo, i just love the RS and RS Cosworth models from Ford..

well i got to go buddy, ill catch you later on today if you still online. by the way ill ask you for a little favor if is possible, i own a 1990 RS turbo Escort, and my Fuel Distributor got messed up , and i cant find it anywhere here in Spain, by any chance do you know anyone or anyplace i can call where i can buy a used or rebuild one ? these is very important to get my RS running again., thanks.. if you have any info email me, or PM me. miguelmartin78@msn.com thanks men...

I used to have an Escort RSt. A red '90 spec one, with the updated bumper/spoiler etc. but I sold it several years ago. It was I think the only standard an un-molested RSt in the whole of Britain! Excellent car, but its the only high performance ford I've ever owned.

As for the MPS, I have nothing planned at the moment, the car is pretty good the way it is! I have had some excellent experiences with the Dastek Unichip on previous cars though, as they have always made the cars drive better, with more efficiency and power, so I may look into that.

Try these guys first... They should be able to source a new metering head/fuel distributor.

Sorry I try to welcome all new members. I've been a little slow lately.

Welcome to the forums though. I would love to make it to london some day. Hopefully when I buy a Escort Cosworth :)

as for the ticking, I'm not real positive, I believe it is just the DI, but I know there was a TSB for excessive ticking do a search and see if it comes up.

Post some pictures when you get it man. This board is either really busy or really slow.

GSB welcome, glad to see the MPS representing here, is yours the version with the 20gig hard drive built in?

It certainly is, and its a nice toy to have. although I think I'd rather see an iPod interface in there, as I already have 100+GB of MP3's on my home PC. I gave up on cd's years ago, and I'm now having to burn albums onto cdr's so I can put them in the car.

That does sound like a pain, its too bad its not removable ... that would be a pretty sweet mod if I do say so myself.

It is removable. I could pull it out and swap it for the indash cd changer or a minidisc player. It's part of the modular audio system that Mazda deleoped for this car.

So can you pull it out, connect to your home computer, and drop music on to it? or even swap it out for a larger drive?

Thats removable in the sense that its not welded to the car.... You'd have to strip out half the dash to do it!

Ah gotcha, It would be bad ass if you could run extension cables from where it connects to the indash reciever, to say the glove box and make it easily excessable to remove, load, and replace it.

Welcome to the forums. I lived in London (Golders Green) for 3 year when I was a kid. I still remember the night my Dad brought home a late eighties mazda 929 with the digital display and the pop-up lights. I thought it was a spaceship and was a fan of the zoom-zoom ever since.

Hope you enjoy your 6 MPS. the AWD should come in handy in that lovely weather.

Hmm... removable hard drive caddy in the glovebox... Sounds like a damn fine idea. I wonder if it has been done? Cant take much more than a ribbon and power cable to achieve, plus a working knowledge of what format Mazda use to record the music and organise the files... DAMN! I said I wasn't going to mess about with this car!(hand)

I live about 7 miles from Golders Green, although its not a part of London I visit regularly. If its anything like the rest of London though, it will probably be unrecognisable as the place where you spent your youth by now. Progress has not been kind to much of London.
