A cheap "standalone" solution?

I was talking to a Mitsubishi Evolution 8 owner who's using an open source (free) tuning solution for his stock ecu which is capable of tuning every aspect of the computer. It makes sense that this combo could be adapted to any car just like any other stand alone ecu solution. It'll of course need to be wired in properly and then tuned. In any case, the ecu can be had for about $100 plus the OEM evo harness. It's unbelievable how many parameters can be adjusted on the stock evo ecu with that open source software. Any thoughts?

open source isn't an ecu. it rewrites the stock map. i know this because i used it on my STi.

It's pretty nice, you need to create the software to edit, i suppose, or the parameters.. SOMETHING. but either way, all you do is download ecuflash, or romraider, and get a tactrix cable then write the ecu.

yea, I agree. I still cant believe that after all this time no one has put in the effort to unlock the mazda ecu, so we can do the same thing as those guys.

I was about to post the link to tactrix.com, but you beat me to it. I understand that open source is not an ecu, it's the software solution which allows the stock ecu to be reprogrammed, as you said.

The issue is not in being able to reflash. We are not able to change or edit any of the parameters of the file to be flashed.

Are those rom file a released to the public? can we put hands on? The cheapest solution would be to find out how to mod the stock ECU. I would like to see one of those file if somebody have one.

Befriend a Master Mazda Tech at your local dealership! Or, maybe TheMAN could do us the honor?

We are 89,707 member on the forum and maybe the half are active member. Is hard to think that nobody can decrypt a file. Our best bet is to found at least one of those file and somoene will sure be able to find how it work.

I like your attitude! Then, we'll just need for someone to write us a program like EcuFlash to manipulate these files.

if anyone has the files i can look at i will go through and try to decode them...i really don't have much better to do right now. pm me

Sweet, I can try to as well but honestly I doubt ill have any idea wtf it is that im looking at. I know this is how the honda crome got started out.

first we need to find out how to access the files on this ECU.

in radioshack, you could build yourself a ROM reader, but then you would need the interface on the cmputer to be able to comunicate with it.
if we find out what type of EEPROM the mazda eCU is using, we could replicate reading it with open source software online.
