A/C Horsepower numbers?

I really must have a freak P5, the AC works REALLY well in my car. I have to turn it down and turn the cold to the between cold and hot setting (and I love it freezing). The UR UDP pulley really helped the AC from draining as much power. I mean yeah, if I am AutoXing I will have it off and the windows down any way. Though everyday, the AC does not hurt as much now. The mod also helps with freeway cruizing. Maybe you guys should get your AC systems check out for low coolant or leaks.

But how often does it get over 90 degrees in MD? 90 degrees is when my AC starts losing its effectiveness.

It was 92 today and it worked great. California is weird though, maybe you do not have the same coolant in your AC because of laws.

nah, we probably have the same coolant. Maybe mine just needs some more. I bought my pro5 last year "mazda certified used" so I assume that they checked the coolant charge and it is as good as it can be, but who knows. I dont have a garage or carport either so the sun just bakes the interior and the AC has to kill that heat in addition to the regular heat before it gets cool. Im sure thats not helping anything either. With my 2000 s10 pickup the cab used to be like an instant refrigerator even on the hottest days, I definately miss that.

Well you may already know this but here is some tips:

- Get a reflective sun shade
- Crack the windows slightly and put the AC on Full blast in non recycle mode.
- Once you let the AC run for about 3 mintues or less you should feel a bit of chill.

- Then roll up windows and hit the recycle button

This should speed up the process of cooling your car. The window method gives the heat a place to go once the AC pushes into the car. The once most of the hot air is out, the recycle helps to lower the temp even faster.

Also it is possible your have a leak or it's low. Get the AC checked out before it doesn't work. I had a Chevy Cavalier that it was weak on the AC and then it went out completely. They were going to charge an ass load because they needed to tear the dash apart to replace the condensor. To find out I had a leak I had to have them charge it $99 and it lasted a day. I hope that's not your problem.

Good luck, hope this helps.

haha yeah...our air conditioner is weak in the three...mine only has 2231 miles on it so i doubt its lacking charge, or leaking...but then again i do live in az, and we were rocking 120 today...so its hard to find ac that can fight that..haha.

Actually quite a bit... It will be 90+ here for at least 5 days straight... MD only has two seasons... Summer and Winter.

On another note...I had a car for 3 years with no AC. There is NO WAY I would do that again. I don't care if you are going 20 or 120 MPH, it is a simply matter of physics and physiology. High temp and high humidity means you aren't going to cool off very well. Period. AC = Cool air and low humidity... Even if you do sweat, the low humidity allows the water to evaporate off of your skin and cool you off. Anyone who has had to do endure a hot and humid Summer knows exactly what I am talking about...

Its over 90 everyday here in houston plus very high humidity so my A/C gets a real workout. It also performs beautifully I leave it on the lowest fan setting most of the time and it cools great. The only time I crank it up is when I first get in the car, black car+black interior ftl. And even then I only leave it on the second setting for bout 5 minutes then turn it down.

I was driving around in hot-as-balls-sandwhiched-in-a-toast-oven florida with the A/C on full blast on "recycle" mode. The A/C system isn't strong enough, but that's not the point of this thread. I decided to floor it with the A/C on full and I would estimate what "feels" like a 20whp loss. I was wondering if there is a more exact figure out there some where. I hit 4-6k in 1st gear and it was a dog, where as without the A/C on the car starts picking up around that area. I have AEM SRI and Thermal CL Catback (which really opens up that power range). Any one else have experience noticing that much different when the A/C is on vs off?

I'm sorry but that first sentence is so beautiful I could almost cry.
