99 Protege ES
i just got my protege, its the 1.8 ES model.. there is one problem with it though, somtimes when there is a certain motion in the car, an audible clunk can be heard from the front left area of the car. also you can feel it on the floor of the vehicle.

i first thought it was the clutch, but i found out that the clunk noise does not always make a sound when i put the pedal down. its a manual. it seems to be when the car leans a certain way, like when you are first starting out in first, and if you let off on the clutch in an incorrect fassion, and the car shakes, you would hear the clunk. anyone else have an issue like this? thanks guys.

i was driving home from classs the other day, and the clunking sound started to get much worse. It got so bad i pulled over into some parking lot to jack the car up, so i could take a look at the brake pad ( thinking it was loose ) well as i started to remove the lugs, i noticed that two of the lugs were bearly tightend at all... i was basicly driving on 2 lugs! So i tightened them up tightly, and the noise is gone... most simple explanation in the world, eh?

Does it happen only when your're braking?

LOL that happened with my Neon, driving through the city on a date. She was freaking out, I got back to her house and it was really bad. I jacked it up and all four lugs on my front left wheel were almost off. I got some brownie points out of it, she was impressed how I quickly I "fixed" the problem :)

lmao!

i found something else under my car that is making a rattleing sound. ( sounds like a soda can ratteling under my car)

So close to where the oil filter is, i can see the exhaust line going all the way out to the pipe. Well, there are two little springs attached to the side of the exhaust pipe, and one is loose. I might have to tighten the one of the springs.
