99 Millenia S timing belt question (from a Mazda5 owner)

Not sure where on here to post a question about the Millenia S, but since a few people on the 5 forum really seem to know all MAZDA, I will will post here and ask for forgiveness. (I do have a 5)

I gave my niece a 99 Millenia S and the thing has been taken care of in every way, parts replaced, clean, etc. etc... The one thing I never changed was the timing belt. The car has 163,000 miles on it and runs excellent. Just curious if the timing belt for the miller cycle engine is built where if it broke, the engine would be toast. I know some timing belts can break and just be replaced and everything is fine, but not sure on the 99 S.

The car is not mine anymore, but I don't want my niece to have issues either. If it breaks I will fix it, but don't want to find out it broke and the car is done.

Any info is appreciated.

No probs, we'll keep it here to see if somebody answers, but at the same time I'm thinking there should be some other Mazda experts around who know their stuff with different engines as the Millenia's one is not the MZR engines we are familiar with.

I would suggest to post the question here and let me know how it goes...

if the timing belt breaks, you might as well buy a new mazda 6. The belts are recomended on the miller cycle engine at 100k intervals. They really suck to do but most shops have a flat rate for t belts so find one and let them hash it out, but please dont bring it to me because i always lose time on them the vaccum hoes are the hardest to get right everytime

To answer your question according to alldatapro.com the engine is NON interference meaning if you blow the belt most likely the motor will survive the event.

jus like Logank said its a non interference engine.... luck us. No damage to the engine at all. Though the recommended interval is 100K miles i know of owners of S and Non-S milly's that go about 150K miles without a prob but change it as a precaution.
