I am about to change my front brake pads again. I just changed them about 25,000 miles ago, but them seem like they need it again. The last time I changed them, I noticed these two rusty flat metal pieces attached to the brake pads which at the time i had no idea what they were, but I assuming now they were the break pad shims. Since they were very worn, I decided to leave them off the new pads. Everything went fine with no problems or noise.
My question is should I install new brake pad shims when i change the pads this time around? Are they absolutely necessary?
