I have a '93 Mazda 626 with the 2.0L. It's on it's way out and I'm curious about other swaps. I'm sure its the same set-up as the protege just a different transmission. Will the KL-ZE bolt up clean? What about a GTX/GTR?
i dont think anything aside from a 2.0l is interchangable. I am not sure but its either the 93 or 95 626 5-speed tranny that is desireable for its gear ratios, so you may wanna hold onto that and just drop in a 2001+ 2.0l and maybe turbo the b****. with 01 u get a bit more power, slightly better cams, better crank and a few other things i think, though those are the main differences.
the engine in your 626 is the exact same in a Mx6/probe. To swap in the klze you basically need a whole donor v6 car for axles, harness, etc. Almost not worth it, if you ask me. There is a JDM 2.0, but only a few people have successfully completed the swap. Go to probetalk.com, they have areally good thread on the 2.0 to klze swap.
