91 to 94 octane

:
2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
Anyone here drive out of their way to get the 94 octane at Husky Pembina/perimeter or Mohawk (north Main)? I just want to know if you've noticed a difference in performance. The only thing I really noticed is that my gas mileage went down a tad.

I would recommend you stay away from thier gas (Mohawk/Husky). Not good for turbo charged engines! Then again I've also heard its not very good for a fuel injected vehicle period.

Yeah, I agree with Steve...That was the worst gas I ever used. I got 75 less kilometers to a tank (notcool)

That's what you get when you put a higher octane gas into a NA car that doesn't really need it. Especially Mohawk because of their ethanol.

Actually, I believe the MP3 Recommends 91 min. due to its advance timing.

There are two ways to produce a high octane gas.

The first is through refinement.

The 2nd is by adding Ethenol or Methanol

When you add s*** to your gas you get s*** out.

George, stay the hell away from that s***.

The best high octane gas available is from Shell. Their method is the most advanced in the world (no bull here). They do not add anything to get it at 91 octane where as everyone else in the world does add s***.

Also, this 91 from Shell is only available in Western Canada as it is produced in Alberta.

Duely noted. Thanks! The tank of gas I'm on now is Petro's 91 and there seems to be no difference in performance. I'll be switching back to Shell. I have always liked their gas for some reason. Plus, there's AirMiles!

Except that Shell now rents out movies and the lineups are stupid. I waited 10 minutes just to pay because some stupid moron didn't want to pay a $2.00 late fee. Hence why i've switched to Esso....do you have a tiger in your tank (sssh)

Solution: I always pay at the pump when possible.

In the summer time, I use the Mohawk 94 octane, exclusively. The higher octane rating, in favor of minimizing detonation, is well worth the 'slight' decrease in fuel economy. As well, one running a boosted application should be able to notice a difference using the 94 octane. :)

Cheers.

For a real kick you should try Av-Gas 104 octane
