I am building an '88 MX6 as a cheap, stock class race car/autocross project. Dirt cheap. But I have some questions to put to the forum. In this case, opinions (not just experience and real knowledge) is solicited.
The car has a 2.2L motor, engine family KT2T. I am thinking of going with a NA short block (got one, needs work but that's no problem for my team) and the turbo head assembly, to get more HP. All indications are that setup will work, including info from two turbo builder books I found at Barnes and Noble.
I found a parts car, with a good 2.0 motor (engine family GT2T). Is this the same motor, except for displacement? Any chance I can pick and choose parts from both motors and make myself a stroker motor of bigger displacement? Like maybe the 2.0 has a bigger bore, but the 2.2 has a longer stroke? Very long shot, I know, but hoping someone here has knowledge of that.
It that would not work, which motor is better to use?
Both cars are turbos with intercoolers- an 86 and an 88. Would there be any benefit to fitting TWO intercoolers? Which would be better- series (air blown thru one and then the other) or parallel (air split and blown thru both at same time)?
Is there a lighter, smaller car that used the same engine family? That I could put the built motor in, and THAT become the race car?
