OK, so I just bought a 1998 Mazda 626 a month ago. I did not take the car to a mechanic because:
1- The car drove perfectly when I bought it, and 2- I didn't feel like spending money to take the car to a mechanic to have the car checked out. The car was driven by an old man and only has 52,000 miles on it.
I just installed a new head unit in the car to replace the stock radio. Right after installing and testing out the new radio, I started the car and the RPM's went up to around 700 (normal), then sloooooowly started to drop all the way down to 200 RPM's which made the whole car shake and shudder. I had to give it a little gas to raise the RPM's back up, and even then the idle RPM's were below normal (about 500 RPM).
My question is this: would the new radio be causing this? It's only a 50x4 watt unit. Could it be drawing too much power from the alternator? If it was, would that make the RPM's drop like that?
Any help would be appreciated, Thank you for reading.
