My girlfriend's brother has an '03 V6 auto that threw a CEL tonight. Just had a 30K tune up last week and only has about 250 miles on it since. I had a quick look at it tonight in the dark but couldn't find anything obvious. Calling mazda in the morning to see if during the tune up mazda forgot oil or something foolish.

Any tsb's out there I should watch for?

Anything stupid I should check?

Going to autozone to get the code read before mazda touches it.

Just to confirm..He is getting it scanned and not buying a scanner right?

hmm.. it could be something really stupid..

my 6 threw up a CEL when a moron at a rest stop in NJ didn't screw on my gas cap right and my tank lost some pressure.. it could be something as simple as that.

That was also a common 03 issue that was fixed by a reflash. Don't listen to the dealer if that is what the cel was for when they tell you to turn the gas cap 10 clicks past secure. Take to another dealership ;)

We still get probably 5-10 people a month come in with loose gas caps and cel's on. It's amazing how many people do it more than once.

Thats a difrent issue from service telling someone turn it till it clicks 10 times ;) do keep us updated.

Before CP-e, anyone with a 6s and injen did call them just that cause it stayed on longer than TCS OFF light

Speaking of intakes...My dealer (A Mazdaspeed Dealer) told me yesterday that installing anything other than Mazdaspeed Parts will void our warranty...anybody else experiance this?

No offical word yet on it. Heard they want to replace a cat, but I still don't know what code was thrown.

did he also tell you if the mazdaspeed intake causes a cell that also isn't covered by warenty? mazda warentes no intake to include the mazdaspeed one. It's a dealerships decision. I had an entire engine replaced while sitting on eibachs and HIDS. Eibach+Flat bed towtruck=SCRAPE! Any new info on what the cel was? If it were a cat the car should have velt real sluggish cause it would have went into a "Limp Mode"

Ok, offical word is that the ecu is the problem. They have determined that the ecu is changing from closed to open loop randomly. It's not adjusting at any rpm but staying in open loop almost all the time with random blurbs of closed loop.

To me, this sounds retarded and more likely an O2 sensor (as they are finding this because its dumping way too much fuel all the time) hence why they originally thought it had to do with the cats. I don't know how an ecu can just mess up like that and what are the chances of it happening to other 6's.

Keep in mind, this info came from a mastertech, to my gf's brother, to my gf and then to me. That said, I am not even sure if I have the whole story.

6s is known to run rich and every now and then kill a cat. some ignored the cel and the cat killed the engine. CP-e remapped the 6s to not run so rich but still in the mean time see how the dealer plays this out.
