5w-20?

Hey Guys,

I realize that the recommeded oil for the MS6 is 5-30 and some say 5-40, but I'm just curious if 5-20 would be okay. I don't race or anything like that. Don't get me wrong I get on it here and there. The reason I ask is I work alot and truly don't have the time for working on my car. When I've had my oil replaced they put 5-20 in it. Just wanted to get some insight

Thanks guys

I guess what I'm saying should I literally go to the point of draining the oil I just had replaced and put in 5-30? Thanks for the help, sorry for the Ignorance ;)

if you want to avoid potential warranty issues, I would. $35 isn't that high of a price for peace of mind. I would also inquire what posessed the shop to put 5-20 oil in it...

Any reputable oil change place should have some database that tells them the proper oil to use. 5w-30 is the absolute minimum I'd run in the MS6. If you want, run the 5w-40 as it's a little extra protection, and the euro MS6 recommends that as factory. If they put the oil in, take it back, and show them in the owners manual what it should have in it.

good point.... make them clean up their own mess. Also, make sure they swap the filter too while they're at it... otherwise you'll have plenty of 5-20 still in the system, and for everyone's info, oil grades do not mix. any given part of your engine will be lubricated by one of the 2 oils..

5w20 is not ok. its to thin and with the heat from the turbo and fuel from the direct injection it will shear down quickly. get that crap out of there.
