5,500 mile roadtrip, would you do it?

Id say go for it! Do the oil change and definitely the clear bra before you go. But I can't think of a better car for it. Make sure you hit some twisty roads on the way so you can have a little fun.

Also might want to invest in a radar detector.... sometimes cops come down a little harder on out-of-staters then locals.

I went on a 3k mile road trip from minneapolis, down and around colorado and back about 1 month after I took delivery. I say if you have the opportunity go for it. Hell Vegas and back? You'll have the time of your life.

the way back though would probably be more straight forward driving. but maybe we should split up the stops so that we also make a stop or two at a friends place on our way back.

I agree, save something for the way back. Driving straight through that far sucks.

I went on a 2,500 mile road trip from Kentucky to Ontario and around the province and back to Kentucky. The car was fine for all of it. Alot of that was country roads, nice and windy. It was a blast. If you're driving 5,000 miles, I'd be sure to stop around 3,000 and get your car serviced like Mazda recommends. It's debatable whether or not the car should get serviced every 3,000 or 5,000 miles, but it can't hurt and can only help.

My buddy just took delivery of his 2010 Mustang in Detroit MI and drove it to Naples FL the next day, he did a blue painters tape bra that held up pretty well, cost a lot less than the clear bra on my car.

That's what I did when I drove to North Carolina. I changed the oil before I left, stopped every couple hours, and it held up really well. It's even comfy to sleep in if you need to take a nap on the road!

Oh... one more thing. Make sure you idle before just shutting the car down after a long ride like this. And let it idle for a while, pop the hood while your at it to let more heat out.

Oh another tip for long distance driving...Don't get over confident when you see an open road and rubber to burn. ;D

that's why you bought it to drive it! I bought the MP3 with 31K on it and drove the hell out of it...I have 169K on the dash right now. That's what cars are for.
