4WD dash light

I have a 2014 AWD Touring model and I've noticed that when I start the car all the dash lights, light up and I wondered when would the 4WD light come on? You cant switch the car into 4WD so what's its use?

I drove through water that didn't come up to the door sill, and figured it would be just fine like my Trans Am, P71, and other cars I've done the same with countless times were, yes...

a few things that come to mind
very low tire pressure (maybe even faulty TPMS)
wheel speed sensor
ABS sensor
failing battery
