480p vs 720p

I have a 42" 1080p. BUT.. i have direct TV and it broadcast in (up to) 1080i.

the tv will detect what's being broadcast and adjust the screen accordingly.. you can DEFINITELY tell the difference in 480p and 1080i. however.. i don't notice any difference in 720 and up. My bf disagrees

720p actually looks better then 1080i. you get more verticle to horizontal lines of resolution (twice as many to be exact) in 720p then you do with 1080i. for everyone looking to purchase a new tv and wants to have the 1080p tv's, realize this, currently there are no broadcasting stations broadcasting in 1080p.

Facts, all...but why would you turn people away from higher priced 1080p devices which are BETTER if you had them to sell. If some comes in with their bonus check and scream "I WANT 1080p" why not sell them. Unless CC doesn't stock 1080p sets...

Between 720p & 1080p there is no comparison. 1080p has 50% more resolution then 720p. SD to 720p is only 60%. 1080p makes 720p look like low-def.

And here is a chart showing screen size vs viewing distance, and when the human eye can tell the difference between 480p, 720p, 1080p etc. For most people with smaller LCDs, 1080p vs 720p is hardly noticable, or worth it.

Just saw this...

I agree with the article from the standpoint that the conclusions are based in fact. But I've seen a blue-ray movie playing on a 1080p DLP from greater then 10 feet and I was able to tell a difference. Maybe I have super-sight...

Anybody else think you can not tell a difference between two 720p and 1080p images unless you're within 8 feet?

Just to drop in. I have a Sony 55' HD. I had cable till they charged me with $250 of porn movies! Hell I wasn't home or watching football at the times. So I dropped them and went to Directv. I didn't think the picture would be any different, but with Directv you get straight feed in 1080i. With cable the signal gets split so many different ways. Damn nice!(shocked)
