I have been pretty broke lately with it being my little girl's first birthday, and I just dropped $1000 on my credit card bill (that hurt).  Anyway, during the tornado show (Live in my area- scarry s***) , I wondered why my car kept hydroplaning being that my care used to have excellent wet traction. I get a look at my 2 front tires, and they are pretty bald! I go to Discount tire today to order 2 new one (40 offset instead of 45), and he told me that with all options (like road hazzard and such) it would be $455! Damn! I guess further modifications will have to wait! I do thank God that I can afford this right now:D .

That's harsh! A couple of questions...I'm assuming those prices are Canadian right? The other question is are you actually getting another set of Dunlops or is that for a different tire?

After seeing prices like that, it makes me really appreciate the people I know that can beat the hell out of those prices. I will never go to Discount Tire because they are a rip off and like to over charge people for labor.

apexi dont assume every discount is the same.... the discout tire i work at is one of the fastest working and 3rd highest volume in the nation and we steal business from all the other tire places around ... we dont overcharge anything and we give people awesome deals... Now i know there are quite a few terrible discount tires also.... such as the one that is just down the road from ours does things half assed and always gets people coming to our store to fix their problems... if you haggle them they will easily drop prices and they will beat ANYONES price...

Linux, what kind of tires did you price out? Were they dunlops? 215/40/17? how much per tire were they charging you... if it was around 205 per tire.. go through your Sport Compact Car magazines, or other mags with tire prices in them and i think in the Discount prices they publish in their adds are i think 170 or so... if you bring that in and show them they will honor that price... and get them not to charge you a lot on the Road Hazzard they will cancel out that price or lower it for you, but i would reccomend getting road hazzard, just to be safe since these tires cost so much..

My bad bro, I forgot you worked there. That wasn't meant to come across as a shot at you or anything. I'm just speaking from my experience at Discount Tire. I had gone to 3 different ones, 1 here in Cali and the other 2 were in Farmington Hills and Troy Michigan. I didn't try to talk them down on their pricing though. For some reason I didn't think it would work. I usually go through Tirerack or private shops for tires and wheels

according to corporate the one i work at in ann arbor and the one in livonia are the two best in the nation.... but cali is a little far...lol ... if i didnt work at discount i would go through tire rack also.... but if you dont have all the tools to do it your self.. discount tire is probably the best place to go to have someone else work on your car... and if you think the workers are kind of sketchy then go out and watch them and then they wont F anything up...

I got the Yokohama Prada Series 2

It cost me $750 OTD with Alignment.
I thought that was high until I saw the $450 for two!
I have heard these Yokos kick our OEMs arses.
I love them so far...
Got a 300 Treadwear rating too.

I'm not sure about the Yoky's being better than our Dunlops. Parada's are notorious for being load tire due to their tread pattern and I, after getting a few rides in my buddies SI with Parada's, can confirm those comments. They are good tires, but I wouldn't be willing to say that they're better than the Dunlops. I know for a fact that our Dunlops have better wet traction.

Jeremy,

How are the Kuhma's compared to the stock Dunlops?

well my protege is a 2000, so my car had bridgestone potenza's, which suck ass. The kumho's are not the absolute best tire but, they are an all year tire and have a great price. I'm very happy with them and they don't wear quickly either. I recommend them, espically if you're on a tight budget.

Well,

I got my tires today. I got the 215/40/ZR17 SP900's. They are wider, and do not rub at all. My footing is back! I hug corners better than I had been hugging them. My front tires are now wider than the back.
