The AWD SP20 only came in auto trans...BUT no one seems to remember the AWD 626 that they sold in the late 1990's that was available in manual trans. Corksport is still looking for a driveshaft and a gas tank for me. All of the other parts that we need have been located. The A-spec chassis shouldn't have any problems accepting the driveshaft. If you look under the car there is already a large tunnel where the exhaust runs. I'll keep everyone updated on the status and probably do a lengthy how-to when this all comes together.

sweet, keep us updated. if this is fesable ill keep my car. but from your message it sounds like you guys already have the rear end figured out (ie, diff, suspension, axles) is that true. just a matter of drive shaft (cant you just get one made, or get the driveshaft from the 626 cut) and hell why not just do a fuel cell in the trunk?
 
The driveshaft out of the SP20 should still work. I still want the gas tank from the SP20 since it will hold a little more fuel and stay out of my way for a speaker install.
 
so not to pry, how much money are you looking at spending? i figure you must have a good idea if you've located almost everything you need.
 
AWD was only available in the 1.5 liter engine, not the 2.0. So you might have better luck fabricating your own AWD set up rather than modding the 1.5 to fit.

Corksport hasn't set a price yet. I'm hoping I can work a deal since no one in the USA has tried it yet and I told Corksport that I would do a good write-up about it. The AWD manual transmission that they had was mounted to a J-spec 2.0L a while back and they didn't want to seperate them but I told them I didn't want the motor since I would be going FI. So I know it will bolt right up to the FS-DE. Its just a matter of time now.

FWD Sport20 ONLY comes with AUTOMATIC
4WD Sport20 comes with MANUAL and CAN get AUTOMATIC

why the hell do you want to do this swap anyway? you have to hack up a bunch of s*** and it will NEVER be the same car

plus the car will be slowER and heaviER

and while we're at it, lets make the car FAIL the M3 test! Yup, it costs WAY more than an M3 just to be "special"

hell if you want to be "special", go buy a GT-R for christ sakes!
 
I was quote about 7K from corksport for the parts alone. I don't think I would venture 7K just for a drivetrain, but its noble to try I guess.

I thought I took care of you on the last AWD thread before someone deleted it. Ummm... yea its a little heavier. Yea, its a little slower...until you put a ******* Spoolin stage4 turbo on it. I wish to hell and back you would stay out of this thread. You have absolutely nothing of importance to say here. You have no idea what I'm going to have to "hack up". You have no idea how much this is going to cost me. You haven't caught on that I'll be doing the entire swap in my own garage and have every tool I'll need at my disposal including a couple of machine shops and some really good fabricators just in case I have to make the channel in the floor a little bigger. The only thing I'll have to spend money on is the parts and my own time. Christ dude...you have a really good FAQ that helps a lot of people...but you need to be a little more positive about people trying new things.

I DO know what's involved in doing the swap
as I said before... you have to swap the gas tank, redo the floor pan, swap the WHOLE rear suspension, swap the engine mounts, REDO the shifter linkage, REDO the ECU, and of course swap the tranny

THATS JUST THE BEGINING

and yeah, thats nice if you can put that turbo on

just HOPE your tranny doesn't grenade because "AWD" does not equate to "performance"

why was the AWD sport20 sold in the first place? for COLD weather TRACTION purposes

good lord, when will people understand that this car is NOT a ******* race car?

I've looked under there. There is room and if its in the way you cut it, move it, and relocate it. Believe me I've spent hours under my car looking, and considering.

Hmm...seems to me that the AWD transmission had the same J-spec motor bolted to it that fits in all the Proteges. Anyway...I know what a welder looks like.

Its 35mm shorter...I'm not sure about the mounting, but I'm sure if Corksport can find the parts..UPS can find my house.

So it has an extra fuel pump that pumps gas from one side of the split gas tank to the other...ooohhh..rocket science.

You can push the limits of what is possible with mirrors and motor mounts...I'm doing something else.

I said the same thing about that stock "looking" neon at the track the other day...till it ran a 9.00 flat in the 1/8th. And to think they used to say that man would never fly.
 
So with all that how many times did you fail the M3 test on a single car? I mean, after you get all that done, you gotta make it actually go fast too, which is a whole nother problem. Sure, its got those 170hp or so, but you're not going stupid fast without de-everythinging everything that makes it special (motor-wise) so you can turbo it, cause you're not gonna get much faster NA, AND, it may be ~170hp but with alot more luggage to cart around than the old stocker had on a mint USDM car..

is it to be special? "special" has many meanings, you know..
 
I'm kinda following what you are saying there BioSehnsucht...but somewhere around the "de-everythinging everything" part I get lost. Not flaming at all, I just want to understand what you had going on.
 
o have thought of this thouthands of times....
but i dont like the way that the engine sits w/ AWD. becouse of it sitting sideways insead of backwards(subaru engines) w/ the fly wheel sitting in the back of the engine insead of the right side...if u want AWD u go w/ STi...

xelderx, pls dont refer to the sport20 as the sp20. the sp20 is the aussie version

next. a LHD awd p5 will be difficult, not impossible, but difficult. RHD much easier.

there are NO awd p5's in australia. trust me. australian laws dont allow cars that are sold here to be imported....we get the skylines because they arent sold here. same with supra's and s13 silvias. there were never sold here.
 
your gonna add some unnesecary weight and the amount of money you will have to spend is gonna be staggering, really.

the benefit wont come near the cost bro- but hey, more power to ya!
