3rd brake light-flashing relay?

I saw someone post on here, (years ago), mentioning that they wired in a relay to their 3rd brake light. When braking, this light makes the light blink or pulse.

Not for show, but rather to alert the driver behind you.

Anyone familiar with these? Would they be a generic piece or model specific?

I've done this for my Miata. The Miata has a regular single bulb 3rd brake light so I used a regular flasher unit you can find at Autozone etc.

I tried to wir one in for the P5 but it did not work. I beleive it is because the flasher needs a specific amperage or something to activate it. With the P5 using an LED brake light, the power levels are different.

I did not bother to use a Multimeter to find out ifI needed a different type of flasher module or if I could step the power down etc.

If you figure it out, post it up.

In theory there should be a way you could wire a capacitor into the system to cause the light to blink but figuring out the correct capacity and everything would be tough and then wiring it in possibly harder.
