38.7 Mpg!

ty its all cruise controll..and i have to be talking on the phone in order to not get pissed that im going 65. UGH 65 in nj is like a snail. 75 is about the average.

Well I know yours is the hatch and mine is the sedan I don't know how these people can drive a 3 to get 40 mpg thats insane how can you not drive it like a Zoom-Zoom should???? Maybe it's because I'm so young??

There are times to "zoom-zoom," and times to drive like a mature, sane adult. I drive 85 miles each way for work, 3 to 5 times a week. There's not much zoom-zoom about a long, flat, boring expressway drive. I set the cruise control at 70 mph, which is just barely enough to keep me from being a big traffic obstacle in rush hour traffic. I'd set it to 65 if I wouldn't get run off the road by semi trucks. However, on expressway ramps, that's another story! NO ONE keeps up with me on those.

In city driving, I'm sure my mileage is horrible, because I do the zoom-zoom thing way more than I should. I never drive enough pure city driving to fill up a tank and get mileage numbers, but based on how much my gas mileage drops when I have a couple of days of not commuting, I'm sure my city mileage is horrible.

I guess thats true I never get the chance to drive on highways and I know I don't drive like a sane adult... I still drive like a crazy teenager... But I'm working on that... I wasn't knocking any of your driving ways, I'm actually really jealous of you guys that can get great gas millage.

I'm with skylar. I drive like a crazy teenager sometimes, even at 26 years of age. Maybe it's because it's my first NEW car. Maybe it's because I'm ALWAYS in town, and never get to really let it out of the cage. Or maybe I just like it. I'm jealous of your great gas mileage, but not at all of your guys commutes, and that's what seems to really be giving you guys the edge. I drive 10 minutes to and from work, in traffic the whole way. When I do road trips that are all highway, I see the numbers you guys are posting.

My concern is asauged.

We just banned talking on the phone if you're under 18 in Cali...and moving...but everybody else gets to use those damned bluetooth headsets (or speakerphone). Cali has ways to...(killit)

I am going to risk it and say you are still in high school since you said "once that bell rings..." in which case I never want to go back to a high school EVER again I was rear ended in my SUV and PT Cruiser plus I went to school in Ohio so I had to deal with idiots on the snow and ice...

Naw im out of high school just sometimes the memories slip back. But that parking lost is was will always be a b****.

No big deal. I wasn't angry. I was just trying to explain that mileage is largely dependent on how you drive. For a while there I was even doing pretty well with city mileage (as far as I could tell), but I got tired of driving in such a dull manner all the time.

i drive with a heavy right foot and i still average 32-35 mpg mine is a standard and using cruise i'll get closer to 40mpg but only if you can set it and leave it i've only found one highway that moves steady enough to leave cruise on! i'm at sea level and i was told that if you bring the car to a location with a big altitude difference something in the computer needs to be adjusted- maybe you guys / girls getting low mileage have an altitude issue or clogged air or fuel filter (only takes one dirty tank of gas to clog a fuel filter). or maybe it's the different gas i notice my mileage does drop slightly the odd time i have to use gas from washington state although the stuff in oregon seemed ok. just to be safe i use mid grade when i'm stateside but here in canada i get good mileage from regular. anyways all i know is if you only get 20 mpg something is wrong!

Thats not true, 20mpg is the average for city driving with lots of traffic like I do in Destin. I drove to Pananma City this past weekend and got about 33mpg and I know for a fact my filters are clean! It depends on the driver and the 5 door gets a little worse and the 2.3 a little worse... the driving conditions etc.

I routinely get 31-32 in town and 36-38 on the highway. I know I could do 2-3 better if they didn't put Ethanol in the gas around here. But, what can ya do?
