Im sure youve heard similar stories; 20-year-old trades his 06 Honda Civic for a much more powerful and, most importantly, rear-wheel drive, Nissan 350Z on April 9 2007. Three days later, he, and his teen girlfriend were involved in a horrific accident where the 350Z was split into two pieces after the driver lost control and ended up hitting a tree.

According to police, the teen was allegedly street-racing with an unidentified BMW north on Kirby near San Felipe before he crashed his 350Z. "At some point, the Nissan lost control, left the roadway, striking two trees and pinning both occupants in the vehicle. The BMW left the scene." said Capt. Milton Martin of the Houston Police Department. Unfortunately, while the girl wasn't hurt seriously, the 20-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries. I can't help but feeling sorry for the guy even if it does appear that he did something totally immature.

wow... nothing except some head injuries? albeit serious head injuries but still...those two are lucky to be alive

speed limit says 30 :\. i won't lie i have raced on a road before (a.m. hours, just a couple of times but not anymore, thankfully!) and there IS a certain point where you car and the road is telling you "i can't do this." i wish people would at least realize that instead of going beyond that.

I wondering if he was listening to the Meat Puppets' awesome "Split Myself In Two"?

No, teh kid sounds like an idiot. Probably was listening to Nickelback.

if he only wouldve went with the FWD Msp he would have possibly been okay. Young drivers dont need RWD. Glad he is okay and probably learned a valuable lesson.

The 20 year old will prolly never be the same again mentally. I have seen too many get in accidents like this one, be in the hospital for several months, rehab on how to talk again, etc. Then short term memory becomes a problem, cant remember what you did an hour ago, don't remember what u had for lunch or what movie you just finished watching. Its really sad, I hope that he will pull through.

I don't know. I would be interested in know whether RWD in itself causes more accidents w/ younger drivers. I saw just as many kids ball their FWD cars up in high school as RWD cars.

I would actually guess a mid-priced RWD car (with traction or stability control) is more intuitive and easier to control at 9/10th's (to even a below average driver) than a FWD car. It's just more intuitive.

Of course when you're driving at 10/10ths and you're not a mature and skilled driver, nothing can save you.

So typical! I have a customer that bought his 16y/o a e46 M3 and it was totalled in two days. I was thinking what a dumbass.

I want to move this thread and sticky it in the street racing section..

Yet another reason to enjoy your car, and only race it where properly sanctioned.

He's lucky he didn't kill the girl or another driver.

Think with your head, not your testicles and right foot.

How young are we talking? (evil)

very sad....well, actually on the other hand, he got what he had coming to him. And that is what I call Hardwood. Did the tree even move?

A car is no match for a tree. If you ever see yourself having an accident, avoid the trees at all costs.

Too bad is wasnt a JDM car...that would be the front clip needed for a transplant...:D

Marijuana has the same affect. lol

I don't think it matters fwd, rwd, while entering a turn either one... you will feel the car begin to slide or feel unstable while increasing speeds. It all comes down to the driver's decision to either shut down or keep risking everything.
Now I don't know whether or not thats what happened here but most likely it is. I don't see how you could lose control going straight. I bet he was thinking he was a drift king with his Z.

Well, he obviously wasn't doing normal driving. He was trying to impress that girl with some cool moves turned horribly wrong.
