Started the car this AM and let it warm up for a while. It was/is 20* outside. As soon as I got in and touched the gas the CEL came on. Now I have not even done a single thing to this car except drive it and fill it once with Mobil 93. Maybe the gas I thought. I filled it again later on this AM with Sunoco Ultra 93 and the CEL stayed on. Car is running fine and I got 19.6 on my first fill and 21.8 on this last one. This is with no heavy hot rodding around because the thing has no miles on it yet. So........how many of you guys got a CEL on your stock new cars??

dont get your panties up in a bunch, there are a number of reasons why that cel comes on in the new ms3. most likely since its cold you have the p2006 code. however i would think the 08s were fixed. your dealer should have a fix....i understand your concern because its brand new (i would be pissed too) but as long as performance isnt affected it should be fine...

I went through a batch of CELs myself. I think I might have forgotten how to put the gas cap back on.

It might go away on it's own, so far mine have.

The person at the service center of my dealer (or, the dealer near me at least) said so long as it's not blinking it's OK.

I bought my car like two months ago and after one day, I got a CEL. I took it in, they updated the ECU and it's been perfect ever since.

Don't worry about it..it's not like the car is going to fall apart (rei)

If you think a CEL sucks, my last car, an 03 VW GTi which I bought new, had a defective steering rack. After one day, I had to put it in the shop for a week. This CEL isn't that bad.

Dont let the CEL issue make you lose faith in the car... Most if not all of us with 07 had them at one point or another and other or had the recalls done before the CELs reared their ugly head... other than the "take the car to dealer" inconvenience the cars are running better now than before... I doubt you will ever see the CEL again for another 100K miles after you take care of this one...

One last thing: you did check your gas cap right?

as mentioned previously, being a former VW owner, it's possible that I've been softened to the appearance of dash lights. :)

I was still in the dealership lot, letting the engine idle while I adjusted mirrors and seating position when the CEL came on. I hadn't even driven the car yet. I ended up going straight to service, waiting for about an hour while they updated the ECU and the salesman/dealership manager sucked up to me because they were embarassed, and then finally drove away. Haven't seen the CEL since. Of course, you feel pretty bad about a car the first day you get it when in 5 minutes you've had the CEL light coming on.

Well I went out and checked the gas cap for the heck of it. It's on. I then un plugged the battery and did the old Ford (Ford and Mazda are together on tons of stuff) ECM reset (Un hook - term and then hold the key on while holding the brake peddle down for 15 seconds to clear KAM)to see if the whole ECM would reset and it did. I had no CEL for a little over 6 miles then while sitting in traffic it came back on. It is some thing about the car sitting idling for a while & then on that initial touch of the gas pop.....CEL. I'll call the dealer in the AM.
One other thing that started this afternoon is that my dash around the cowl area were the defrosters are is rattling & sqeaking like crazy.
I wonder if they will give me a loaner while they repair it?? This is my only car now!!! I think they would seeing that I have only had the car since Wens night. Heck, they have not even registered it for me yet!

Sucks that you are having some CEL issues man. I have 18k on my MS3 and only had a CEL once during a heavy downpour. I have the MS CAI and it went away after it stopped raining. I love the car. Good luck man, hope it's nothing. Peace.

Even if the car is a brand new 08, you need to get the update to the ECU. You can reset it all you want but there are misfires going on that are lighting up your dash.

I didn't notice my car acting funny at all but apparently the computer did. From what I was told at the dealership, I registered two misfires and I had driven 1k miles in the first day of ownership. No biggie.

Others have noticed a squeak coming from inside the car and for me, it was the seat belt harness that connects to the seat. Even if I am just sitting in the car with the seatbelt on, I can grab the seatbelt part that the strap goes into (on the lower right when in the drivers seat) and wiggle it to make that sound. The more I drive, the more it happens. Wierd though, sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

OK well,,,,Thanks for all the replies. This is the first new car I have bought for myself (wife gets the new cars) and I just kind of felt bumbed that the CEL went on. I know the dealer will just tell me to bring her in but I work 6am to 6pm and I do NOT have a job were they will let me take a long lunch or a 1/2 day at this time of year. It will have to be a night time drop off and I HOPE to God they give me a loaner. They told me that they give loaners while I was buying the car but...........you know how that goes. Stinker too is that the dealer is closed on Sundays..........Oh, and it's snowing out! LMAO!!!!! I know.........The glass is 1/2 full not 1/2 empty!!! :)

That sucks to hear, hopefully they give you a loaner. I would think so.... hell, I went in for a 30 min oil change at my Mazda dealer and they offered me a loaner.

For the records I have 4k, a MS CAI with no CEL issues. I didn't realize so many people had CEL issues.
