well, i think this is more of a General question then a PERFORMANCE question, but i could be wrong...

-------------

anyone know of a good place in San Jose, California to take your P5 for a 30k mile tune up? the dealership wants $500, and i know i can get it done for cheaper!

Made in Japan, PepBoys, 76, etc...

What should consist of a 30K tune up? Fuel filter, air filter?

What about tranny fluid? I just hit 30K to and should be doing something I just don't konw what.

30K service.

I plan on doing the following in a few months when I hit 30K...

1. Flush and replace Anti-freeze
2. Replace Transmission fluid with Redline MTL
3. Replace Spark Plugs with OEM NGK's or Bosch +4's
4. Replace Fuel Filter
5. Replace PCV Valve
6. Clean Throttle Body
7. Clean K&N (It will have been in there 10K by then)
8. Inspect Belts, Hoses, Brakes etc... Just like at Oil Change.

That should be about it... :)

I think the manual specifies only #1 thru #3 though, the other stuff is just good and cheap insurance.

I think the manual tells pretty much everything that should be done, I did however make my own service printout so I dont have to go searchin in the manual all the time. I know it prob doesnt list everything though, specially stuff the normal home mech. shouldnt attempt.

Hey guys thanks, I totally forgot about flushing the coolant and puttin in new plugs. I'll have to start buying the stuff. 5 quarts of tranny fluid right? I may be wrong, I"ll check my book. Well have fun with your cars. Later and thanks guys.

take it to the dealer...

Best advise for the 30K service... I work at an Infiniti dealership in Northern California as a service writer. Even the techs at my shop told me to take the car to the dealer.

The only way the maintenance will be done correctly on the car is to take it to factory trained technitions, using factory authorized equipment and factory authorized replacement fluids.

I know it's more money, but these cars are an investment worth protecting.

PA_MP3_Man- 3 qts of tranny fluid should do you fine. I think it takes like 2.9 or something.

30,000 mile tune up? I just got a letter in the mail from my dealer telling me to come in for my 11,250 mile tune up. I think they either think I'm stupid or they are desperate for cash. They also quoted me $45 - $50 for a tire rotation. Gimme a break!

Holy crap......50 bucks for a tire rotation geez.....dealerships are scams.....i'd never go in for one of there "recommended" servicings.....i'd just do it myself:cool:

I tried to do the tire rotation myself after getting the quote, but I couldn't get one of the rear tires off. I've done it before and had no problems, but this time it seemed to be glued on or something. The nuts were off, the tire was off the ground and I took the parking brake off. I don't know maybe I am stupid? Either that or really weak, but I felt so foolish I just abandoned the whole project.

gett'n ready for my 30000 mile tune up.
Quote came to $250

That's in Ohio.
$250 from the Dealership?!?!?! or $250 from somewhere else? The dealership i got my car from quoted my $500!!! but then i can get it for $159 from the Shell Gas Station, or $199 from the Precision Tune Auto Care...

Precision Tune Auto Care decscription says "As Per Manufacturer Recommendations"

Shells' description says "includes: oil change, filter change, tune up, air filter, PCV valve, crackcase filter, transmission oil & filter change if applicable, differential oil change if applicable, radiator drain & refil, brake inspection, tire rotation, check belts & hoses"

Yeah your wheel was just kinda rusted on to your rotors. Just kick the tires a few different places it'll pop off eventually. Atleast it does for me.

30K is pretty basic,
1. Flush and replace Anti-freeze
2. Replace Transmission fluid with Redline MTL
3. Replace Spark Plugs with OEM NGK's or Bosch +4's
4. Replace Fuel Filter
5. Replace PCV Valve
6. Clean Throttle Body
7. Clean K&N (It will have been in there 10K by then)
8. Inspect Belts, Hoses, Brakes etc... Just like at Oil Change.

That list covers it well....the tranny is debatable, some will tell you 60k and some 30k. I kinda feel that it's a personal descion. The fuel filter may be a little difficult too, im not sure if it's an in-tank unit of out-of-tank unit, haven't checked. BTW in response to the dealer comment previously made, take it from an X-mechanic and service writer, the fluids and tools are typically the same as what you get a most parts stores and a compentent shade tree mechanic can do just as good a job on basic services like a 30K

Dang you guys got some chitty dealerships to be charging that much. I got the tires done for free, oil changes only cost about 7-10 bucks, and all other repairs have yet to reach over 60 bucks.

Kinda of a shame to think there are bum dealerships acting that way.
