OK . I want to start saving money / buying parts. Can you guys who have done it list ALL the parts / links to the parts / prices (estimates if need be)

Ive looked at tons of threads on others builds - but yet to see a list - part #s or any web links to parts ~

So please - help all the other people (like me) out who need spoon fed (moon)

300 HP is going to need forged internal, welded LSD, full 3" exhaust, or open dp, GT28RS at about 14-16 psi or larger GT3071R, 440cc injectors might cut it and you can tune them with a split second. but I would go the safer route a toss in the Deatschwerks 600cc ones. I think the wrx sti 565cc will drop in as well. Either way anything over 440cc you need more then a split second. I thing the AEM unit can handle the larger injector. I would also find a set of mazda gtx gears for the tranny, hight flow walbro fual pump. exaust mani, FMIC. Meth injection will also help save your motor. Pick up all the gauges. plus a knock sensor.

good list but I wouldnt even consider 440cc injectors I always say go big cuz you can always tune down but you cant tune up so the 600cc are good. but I wouldnt use a split second for 300whp when I had 330whp I was using a microtech standalone. and its more then just going forged and throwing boost at it I would get the pistons overbored and it would be nice to get some longer rods and shorter pistons, and head work is a must cuz thats where all your power is and dont forget the cams

I'm trying not to be a jerk here, but if you need to be spoon fed, you do not need a 300hp MSP.

why not? who the hell said i was doing any of the work? Maybe money isnt an issue and id have a mechanic do the work? sheesh.. Just cus im not the best under the hood - doesnt make mean i dont like going fast~

Just looking for a list so i could start buying up parts i've seen (dance)

Ok. So 250-300 range = (prices listed below are retail)

1. Forged Pistons - Wiseco Forged Pistons $475
2. Forged Rods - K1 Technologies Forged Rods $400
3. Welded LSD $600
4. 3" Exhaust $600
5. GT28RS Turbo $1000
6. FMIC $600
7. 440cc Injectors $200
8. Split Second AFC $400
9. Some sort of Gear Upgrade / Tranny Upgrade
10. High Flow Walbro Fuel Pump
11. Upgraded Manifold $400
12. knock sensor / A.F / Oil pressure gauges $400
13. Motor mounts $100
14. Clutch - Exedy Stage 2 Clutch - ?? Or stage 1 ok? $400
15. Upgraded Oil Pan $200

$6000+ ??? Thought Ive read you can get 250-300 hp for 2k? lol

What else?

220 can be had for 2K (fmic, exhaust, tune, intake, manifolds, welded diff), after that it starts rocketing up.. at least if you want it reliably. the MSP is a driver's car... if you want a car to just get in and stomp on the pedal for go-fastness, it may not be the platform for you, because they like the finesse of someone in tune with the car. beyond all that, you'll have better numbers for the money you'll put into an SRT-4 or an evo, or hell, a MS3... MS3 is already very nearly at the numbers you're looking to achieve. Just something to think about... if you want a brute strength car, you're starting with a platform thats gonna make life difficult for you.

You'll need to pay another minimum of $4k for all the labor too.

Also worth mentioning is that a 300whp ms3 with an extra 500lbs is not very comparable.

what about it isn't comparable? they're both FWD turbo cars with LSD... they both handle well, and the MS3 is more of a brute. The MS3 will run a quarter mile a full second faster than a stock or similarly modded MSP... and an MSP will outturn a stock or similarly modded MS3.

but yes, at a shop, a 250+ whp MSP is a 10K+ proposition.

I spent well over $12k for all the parts/labor on my car, so yeah, it really does cost a lot.

It takes a significant amount more whp to move 500 more pounds of vehicle.
yes, but the MS3 has more than that "significant amount more" to make things much more than even. don't get me wrong, I'm not an MS3 fanboi, or even really a fan of the car at all.. but if you want a fast strait line mazda, the 3 is a FAR better choice than the protege.

Exactly, I've learned that if you want more hp, start with a car that can give it to you easily (one that is close to your goal) without spending thousands of dollars.

Well this post definitely made me stick with the slowness of the pro til something else comes my way! :-)

What I'm saying is that one or two have hit close to 350whp in an ms3 (to be able to keep up with a 300whp protege) and a few have zoom zoom boomed. It is a better platform but you will still be building the motor and possibly upgrading the turbo and everything else in between to get there.

how many MSPs have compared to MS3? I would bet its a pretty skewed ratio. most of the guys who have blown up MS3s knew they were going to at some point.. or were just being dumb and cranking up the boost. MSPs can throw a rod running normal AFRs, under normal conditions and just... pop. The block is designed to make numbers in the 130's... not the 300's.

Put it this way:

300whp in MS3:
intake, TIP, TMIC upgrade, full exhaust, standback tuner, protune

300whp in MSP:
forged block, FMIC, full exhaust, intake manifold, pnp/valve job on head, trans upgrades, exhaust manifold, bigger turbo, standalone, etc...

no, 300 whp in one car is not 300 whp in another.. but there is a lot more power potential in the MS3. Personally, I'm going a light power upgrade, and heavy suspension upgrade build on my MSP... so don't mistake me for saying the MS3 is a better car for all.. but if you want to make 300 hp, the MSP is an expensive platform.

shouldnt you post that in my "whats the stock block record" thread? geez.

what did he do mod-wise? post in there so i dont threadjack more than i already have.

i could swear there was a post there about 505zoom's stock block dyno results. dont know if it got deleted (or if you were the one that posted and deleted it...)

msp's can be just as fast as an ms3 with full bolt ons and a piggy back, nut same horsepower numbers but just as fast!

or faster (cabpatch)

but, yea it takes a big budget to make an msp really fast. chaching $$$
