3.7L V6 and Kia G-series transmission.

I haven't been very active on this forum in a while and I'm also a BH Protege guy, but I was playing around with the idea of throwing the 3.7L V6 engine into my car with a G-series transmission from a Kia Sephia. I don't want to hear anything about custom mounts or anything like that, my question is will the Kia transmission bolt to the V6 engine? Or does that engine come with a 6-speed and opposed to the Kia's 5-speed? Also, if someone can inform me what the engine code is for the 3.7L it would be nice. Thank you guys!

A couple of things. First, someone will tell you that you can do anything with enough time and money. You already know that. What I recommend is finding a Kia forum and asking there. I don't know many Kia experts on here and it might take a while for you to get an answer if you ever do. This sounds like an interesting project if you choose to do it and I will definitely follow it if you do. Good luck.

I'm not sure it's much of a Kia problem as much as it is a G-series problem. I know the transmission will bolt up to the first gen Mazda6 engines, just not sure about the second gen engines. It's a Mazda G-series just beefed up by Kia.

The V6 uses a different transmission from anything else Mazda has used in the past. I would look at getting a MT from the 1st gen Mazda 6 and use that with the 3.7

Well that's going to put my plans on hold for now. I don't have the money for all that right now so I'll just stick with my first idea and save up for this swap. Thanks a lot guys, really appreciate it.

why a kia transmission? How do you plan to control the valve body solenoids? Just get a Mazda complete driveline engine and transmission (Manual). I don't think you can really expect anyone to take you serious talking about bolting a kia ANYTHING to a mazda. Kias and Hyundais and junk. If you are not content with your Protege, buy a real car. Your front subframe is not designed for a v6, it doesnt even have an engine cradle to hold it. Holy crap, i just read more of yoru posts, I worked in a Mazda Kia Hyundai Subaru dealer 3 years ago and I PROMISE, Kia used a chrsyler/mitsubishi transmission until 05 when they built their own, or should i say hyundai did. Maybe you would be better off putting a small block chevy 350 in your protege. Dude, please PM me and tell me where you get this G series crap info. I am a MASTER Mazda technician, AW6A would be the Mazda 6 speed. FS5A is the 5 speed

BTW, you know the "first gen mazda engine" you refer to, assuming you are talking about the duratec 3.0 is a ford engine. the new 3.7 Cyclone is also a Ford engine.

totally different bolt pattern. not going to work. and there not the same as the ford duratec. there based on them, but use a mazda designed top end.

I am glad someone else can see some obvious issues with this, i geuss i never really had both together apart, i work on Mazdas and FOMOCO vehicles, never checked for similiar base numbers or botl patterns.

I understand this engine/transmission combo will not work. I'm not persuing this goal anymore, I'm looking elsewhere for an engine, Maybe a Kia/Mazda FE3. As for the transmission, it's a Kia based on Mazda's G-series, or so is said on www.clubprotege.com and it's pretty well accepted seeing as it bolts straight to a Mazda BP engine and the fifth gear (at least) are interchangeable with the Mazda MX-6 V6 transmission and Ford Probe V6 transmission (same transmission to tell the truth, Mazda G-series). This trick is used to lower the rpms in fifth gear compared to a stock transmission's gears.

Honestly, I'm tired of people with no sense of imagination. This is why I have turned my back on this forum. If it can't be done easily, with a few nuts and bolts, no one here wants anything to do with it. Yes, I want a V6 under my hood and I'm now looking for a Mazda KLG4 from a 1998 or newer Mazda 626 (or is that info wrong too?). If I can't find a crossmember to work, BG Protege guys use a V6 MX-3 crossmember, I'll make my own, I've got the tools. Heck, maybe I'll get a Miata transmission, RX-7 bellhousing and Miata rear end and driveshaft and make my car RWD. Don't say it's not possible. Witht he right amount of money, skills and determination, anything can be done.

Have you heard of using a Toyota AWD transmission in a GTX or AWD Protege? I'm sure many people would say this is impossible as well, but it has been done. And done quite well.

Oh, and if you didn't notice, my last post in this thread was on July 14 and I said I would stick with my first idea.

And before I forget, this Kia transmission IS a 5-speed. There are no valve body solenoids. Why would I swap in an automatic if I already have one? I figured by mentioning "G-series," whether Mazda or Kia, people would know I'm talking about the manual transmission.

Here's a post made back in 2007 about "Junkyard Upgrades" for first generation Proteges.
"This list could go on and on if you think about it...interior stuff from the mx-3, carpet, consoles, seats, floor mats.

Outside stuff: 93+ egt skirts (only need 5 mins of trimming and slap em on(, 89-91 probe/mx6 front lip (same 5 mins).

Engine compatibility: F2T injectors, knock sensor, oil/coolant lines. B6T oil/coolant lines. Subaru VF turbo parts, 95+BP upper intake manifold, 94+EGT tubular exhaust manifold, 99+ miata cams/lifters/springs, optical distributor, KIA g-series tranny + axles (for MSP LSD swap), rx-7 injectors, dms injectors (box required unless GTR ecu), BP automatic radiator (2 row).

i think im over tired haha."

Maybe when I buy a Mazda3 or CX-5 or "a real car," I'll come back here for information. But for now, I'll keep my BH Protege questions on www.clubprotege.com where they are discussed without trying to put anyone down or make suggestions unrelated to the matter at hand ie: "small block chevy 350."

KLDE & KLZE are your friend if you just want a v6 in your protege, I want to do a KLDE swap. I think most people here want to avoid the headaches that come with a unorthodox motor swap(protege-wise). Good luck to you either way. There was a guy he a while back who wanted to swap a honda motor into his protege. He seemed to be making some progress and then he just stopped posting.

I don't think I'd go through the hassle of swapping a Honda engine. My brother has an Integra and doing a Vtec head and 5-speed swap (I don't know what exact engine it is, though). I see it as a sort of competition, haha.

Don't let a couple douche bags shoo you away from the forum. I like the ideas and agree that ANYTHING can be done with the right amount of money, skills, and patience. Whatever you decide to do, I'd like to see it and I hope you'll post it on here.

Just to clarify myself and engine swaps, i just sold my last fiero. I have owned 9 fieros, allwith different engine and transmission swaps, but always tried to keep it within reason, as far as ecu programming and gettting my engines to bolt up. trust me, i have used an adapter plate and modified flywheels ands starters with just about every fiero engine/transmission swap i did, from small blocks, to 3.4 60 degree engines with g6 6 speed maunal trans - (didn't work out well). If i offended anyone, i am sorry and do appologize. I have been a Mazda master mechanic for 6 years and 3 of those i worked on hyundai/kia and formed a deep hatred towards them. If i can recomend anything though, stay away from Hyundais, Kias, Fieros and anything else that is a headache from the start. I also once had a 91 integra and did the b20a1 block swap from a crv and used the vtec b18 head - very fun and quite easy swap, a swap that is within reason.

I appologize as well. I was already having a bad day, I took it out here, I'm sorry.

I helped my girlfriend's dad with his Elantra a couple weeks ago. Tried to take the alternator out, but a bracket was in the way. Undid the bracket and water started pouring out of the engine. Apparently that bracket was part of the water pump. Not wanting to deal with that, we put the alternator back on and left it alone.

I'm trying to sell some stuff I don't need to get enough money to get an engine and whatever else I need.
