2012 Mazda Mazda2 Touring MT
Cherish your 2s, my friends. According to AutoBlog, the weak sales numbers for the 2 means the chances of the 2nd generation coming here is pretty bleak. As much as I LOVE my 2, I was looking forward to the 2nd generation, which will most likely feature the new "Kodo" design direction as seen on the CX-5 and New 6.

SADNESS!!!

In Canada, speficially Ontario, and even more specific the Greater Toronto Area, I have seen WAY more Mazda 2's than Fiesta's. Not only that, but the amount of Mazda 2's I've seen is in fact, a lot.

Americans just don't get smaller cars. My coworker just got a new Focus sedan, and since he gets pretty good gas mileage he just can't understand why anyone would want a 2 or a fiesta. Even though his Focus barely has more interior room than my 2, he still likes it better because it's bigger. I specifically wanted the 2 for good mileage, outward visibility, easy parking in tight spots, and tight turning radius. His bigger car has one of those.

With Mazda Canada and Mazda North American Operations splitting picking up a Gen 2 Mazda 2 may require a drive across the border when they are released.

to me, for now, that's good news.. I always hate getting a new car then seeing the "new improved" version come out later... then I have to battle myself in the "do i trade up" game. Exlusivity will benefit us.. but not for aftermarket support. on well..

That is sad news. Was looking forward to seeing the possible skyactiv version hitting the US shores. On the other hand this little tidbit from the same article is interesting and hopefully there will be some truth to it:

We've now got a full look at the Mazda6, and AN suggest the 2.2-liter twin-turbo diesel with 170 horsepower and 310 pound feet of torque could come to the U.S. after the sedan is launched here.

The Mazda 2 is just one of those cars you have to drive to fully appreciate. Also, the EPA really screwed them because my mileage is more like 35/42 than 29/35. I think those are the main problems affecting it's sales.

This news really, really bums me out. I was hoping to get a Skyactiv-based 2 at some point. We've been thinking about trading in our Mazda 3 (which my wife now drives since I have the 2); as soon as there's confirmation that there will be no 2014 2 for the US, then I guess we'll be placing an order for a 2013 model.

Build yourself a skyactive 2.0 Mazda 2 for fun and adventure!
