is a b****, does anybody else have the issue of not being able to get into 2nd gear in a higher RPM(say above 5k)? ive done the whole nine yards to relieve the issue, I.E. motor mounts all the way around, STS, Bushings, Tranny fluid change, but nothin has seem to fix it. Any ideas? i think my synchro is ******, but then again i wouldn't be able to get in gear ever, and its not like it grinds, it just wont get the **** in

Have you tried adjusting the shifter itself...if you still can do the factory adjusting procedure on your STS, that is.

Down shifting into 2nd, so that the matched RPM is 2 nd at 5K + ???

you're not alone. it also happens to me sometimes in 4th. is it really the synchros? if it is then i'll just suck it up put my shifter back to stock, put back the OEM fluid, and head to the dealership.

edit: it gets in gear but not as smooth as the other ones.

idk, because under low RPM it goes in, just a lil notchy, but expected with the STS. if it was synchro i think it wouldn't go in at all, but im not a transmission guy, anybody with experience comment on it? its getting a little annoying

Does it do it while shifting slowely at 5k+ rpm?

ok i did a rolling rev to 5k to get in 2nd, and it went in but not very smoothly. It took a little bit of a pull. Ill try again on the way home.

I have a similar problem, I can gear from 1st to 2nd fine everytime but when i down gear into 2nd it sometimes pops out. It sounds like some metal grinding together then 2nd will pop out. I can avoid it by add some gas when i down shift or by babying it and keeping its below like 2.5k rpm. Im not sure exactly what my problem is but i think i might have a bad synchro. The car is a new 2008 and has around 4k miles on it so im going to call my dealership and hope they can help. Has anyone else had the same problem and fixed it yet?

your issue sounds like the one people have when they brake really hard during AutoX and it pops out. mine i just cant get in, but im starting to think i dont have stiff enough mounts and still get some drive train lash

Ya but my happens on the street when i dont brake hard or anything so im not sure what my problem really is

I have the same issue going from 1st to 2nd it's pretty rough and if im at a high rpm i have to really pull to get it into 2nd it usually makes a clunk noise. On the drag strip it's a pain in the ass. I've recently started thinking it might be the synchro's as well. I'd like to find out what it is and see if i can take it to my dealership if it's something they can fix

check the shift linkage see if its got any slack, that can cause the popping out of gear...if you cant get it in gear then the bushings may have moved the shifter base over slightly, making it hard to get in gear....the oem rubber ones give you a little wiggle room but at the expense of a sloppy feel, whereas the solid bushings require everything to be dead on to shift smooth.

hm... might have to take the shifter out along with the bushings and reset everything

same problem

I have a 2007 Mazda5 and also have the 1 to 2nd gear grind when I am accelerating quickly. This is the only place up or down where I have the problem. I was wondering if it was a known issue or if I was using my Zoom-Zoom too much. Is the synchro just slow or broken? I have had several MT cars by many different manufacturers (Mercedes, VW, Toyota, GMC etc) and this is the only car where I look like and idiot when leaving a stop light except for my first Mercedes when the synchro was actually going out. Any info would be great. I am going to the stealership this week for the 35k service and would like some backup for when I mention this problem.
