its definately cheaper to just to build your stock block. The draw back to this is that you'll most likely be without your car for 4-6 weeks unless you have a spare engine that can be worked on. An assembled short block would only take a couple days or less to install.

The car definately does have potential but it has weak points like any other car.
If you want to make over 250whp you will need the typically turbo toys...fmic (or meth inject), exhaust, boost controller, etc.
You can also get intake & exhaust manifolds, cams, etc that'll help increase power but they aren't necessary.
Main things you need are...
1. Upgrade Fuel - Bigger injectors, 255lph pump
2. Engine Managment - Something that will control at least fuel/timing
3. *weld the LSD
4. *upgrade your clutch
5. *forge your internals
6. *bigger turbo
* aren't necessary but recommended
