24 Hours of LeMons - '94 Mazda MX3

Somehow, I fear you've missed the whole point of the "LeMons" concept on this build LOL. I also forsee a number of penalty laps in your future with that much "bling" under the car.

Beleive it or not, I'm still within budget. I have about $50 left to spend and I haven't sold off any parts yet. Furthermore, I have documented proof of how much was spent and we also have Wayne who has no problem convincing the judges :). The last car had Koni's and GC coilovers.

Oh I have no doubt the car is legal, budget wise. Just that the idea wasn't to make another $200X challenge, where you buy a car for cheap then mod it for cheap, the point was to make a challenge where you buy a crap can, put a seat and cage in, and go racing lol

The ToDo list is getting shorter and shorter. At this time, if I were to install the seat, steering wheel, wheels, and dial in the suspension, the car would be raceable. Electrical is done, the brakes are done (Carbotech XP10 in the front and Hawk HP+ in the rear), etc. This weekend, I'll be dialing in the weight and alignment, as well as changing the oil. One more trip to the junker is in order as well for a few odds and ends. Furthermore, the tires (Falken Azenis RT-615) will be mounted Friday.

In all, we depart in a week and all is well. While working on the car this week, I took a quick look at it and thought "this thing will be hauling ass on a race track in just a few days" and got pretty pumped about the event. Wish us luck!

The car looks great, best of luck!

What do you usually use for bribery? Maker's Mark is my weapon of choice.

i wanna do this at some point in my life

Do it! Assemble a team a friends, find the cheapest, most craptastic car you can find on Craigslist, install a cage, and go racing. It's as simple as that and really is what LeMons is about.

We've usually failed pretty miserably in that department, hehe. A friend's home made whiskey made one of the judges go blind for a week...it wasn't pretty. The quick tongue of a team mate gets us out of trouble for the most part. I'd really like to hand over a nuclear powered toaster or something like that, but time really has its limits. (second)

Done and done! Awaiting a reply from Barry now.

Late update....I'm still recovering :).

We had an amazing and quite unexpected performance at last weekend's LeMons event at CMP. We finished 6th overall, one lap from 5th, 6 from 4th, and 28 from the lead. We dug ourselves into a hole Saturday with long pit times consisting of 8 and 9 minutes whereas the leaders were under 2 minutes. We held the fastest lap time until the last hour or so of the race. A penalty lap (from an undocumented sway bar end link) and a black flag didn't help issues either.

When I hopped into the car on Friday for a practice session, I knew by the end of my second lap that this MX3 was everything I've ever wanted in a LeMons car. It was nimble, predictable, pointable, and had power to rocket down the straights. We regularly lapped the leader on 1 hour stints. I've never driven a (stock)BP powered car that had so much power. On top of it all, the other team members were extremely fast drivers....I couldn't have asked for a better team.

Current pending plans place us at Moroso for the NYE 24-hour race. Wish us luck!!

As for the theme, we based it from Daft Punk's Techno Logik. Over 240 pieces of vinyl were placed on the car under the theme "LeMons Logik". Each piece and grouping played into the aspects of the build, driving, racing, thoughts, etc of motorsports and LeMons in general.

Black flag punishment. We had to write, 50 times, "I will control my car on track". This was the result of a driver setting two off mid turn:
