It's time to replace the OEM 205/50-17 tires and I'm looking for something wider to protect the wheels from my wife who has already given them a few cases of "chapped" lips but fortunately no full-face rash yet. I see that a few have manageD 225/45-17 tires, but I'm considering a 235/45-17 which are 1/4" larger diameter and 1.2" wider (.6 more per side). I know these tires are wider than advised on a 6.5" wide wheel, but I think it would fly. I know guys running 12.5" wide tires on 7" wide wheels despite being recommended for 9" or wider wheels, and I run 11.5" wide tires on 7" wide wheels on truck where 8" width is recommended, but admittedly there's a LOT more sidewall height to work with so we may not have that sort of leeway.
Odds are I'll end up going with a 225/50 but if I can push the envelope a bit I'll do it.
