i want to downsize my wheels to 16's and increase the tire sidewall, and was wondering how big could i go in this matter, my concern is tire rub. the reason i ask is i have a friend who is pulling his oem tires and wheels from his mustang and would be willing to sell them to me for 100 for all 4 wheels and tires. the set up is 215/65/r16. any help would be appreciated.

thats a really big tire, whole lotta sidewall. 215/50/16 is fairly close to stock. a 65 will be pretty far off. like 6-7 mph off.

yeah i went to the miata.net garage and used the tire calculator to see the speed dif, but im not so concerned with that, i mean lots of people put outrageous size wheels on their cars and drive with non calibrated speedos. Im just concerned if i have a full car of people will my tires be scraping the wheel wells.lol, but seriously....

that tire size is meant for something like a toyota sienna. look at the wheel well space difference and ask yourself will this even fit

go here, and see just how much bigger than stock those things will be:

a 215/65 is almost 3-inches!!!! bigger than the stock MSP tires. i think you'll rub more than a cheap hooker with those at stock height and NO ONE in the back seat.

I just happened to have a set of 215/65/16's in the shed that I am selling (snow tires from our MPV) and took this pic this afternoon.

Nothing like a nice visual and I am at stock height!

YO! yeah, there is NO WAY those would fit without some fender CUTTING.
