Will this tire fit on this rim on a stock p5 suspension? My main concern is rubbing. Id prefer input from people that are actually running this setup however all input is appreciated.

That size tire came on my car new & it did rub a bit with stock strut/springs but it was with 4 people in the car & it had to be a really good size bump. Not sure if the wheel you're talking about & the ones I have have the same width/offset.

well, according to rishie's fitment recipe (and thread) it might fit, but it'll be damn close. The offset of your wheels will determine your results.

i know its a lot of reading, but if you troll through some of hte later posts there's a host of people asking questions about every size tire, wheel and offset that you can imagine.

the mazdaspeed protege came stock with the exact same wheel tire SIZE combo, so you shouldn't have any problems.

My question would not be if it will rub, but rather if the tire will fit on that rim. I am not sure what year you are talking about, but I have the first gen mazda 3 wheels and they are 6.5" wide. I just purchased a set of 205/40/17 because the guys at tire rack and discount tire direct said that a 215 would bubble. I took the safe root because I am conservative like that. But I would be deffinatley interested to hear how it goes if you get the 215/45/17 that I wanted.

well the MSP (mazda speed protege) had 17" by 7" rims...I think they'd still fit on a 6.5" wide rim, but the "bubbling" effect is when the tread pops up in the middle because the beads are too close together. If thats true, I'd suppose you'd need a smaller width tire (205, I'd imagine)

Dunno that I've seen anyone with 6.5" wide rims and 215's

I ended up with some ADR M-Sports. Thanks for your help guys, no rubbing so far. Same tire size listed but this rim is 7" wide and the offset is 48

It's better to go with 205 on a 6.5" wide wheel than 215. Because the sidewalls will be tilted in, it can do funny things to the contact patch of the tire and you don't always get the most optimimal handling. It has been done before, but the results won't be as good as when combined with a 7" wide wheel.
